Japanese Hotels' Initiative for a Greener Tomorrow
Japanese Hotels Co., Ltd., headquartered in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, has made a significant stride towards environmental sustainability with the launch of their
CO2 Zero Stay® program. This initiative aims to offset the carbon dioxide emissions generated during hotel stays, effectively making them zero. Starting from October 1st, the program will initially be available at nine hotels, with plans to expand to a total of eleven locations including the already participating
Tokyo Station Hotel and
Hotel Metropolitan Edmont.
Understanding the CO2 Zero Stay® Program
On average, a hotel guest generates approximately 15 kg of CO2 emissions per night, as determined by the Ministry of the Environment in Japan. The
CO2 Zero Stay® program addresses this by investing in a carbon offset system that supports renewable energy initiatives and promotes forest conservation activities across Japan. This program is facilitated through the
JTB Communication Design company, which specializes in environment-conscious accommodation services. As part of the program, guests can request an offset certificate that confirms their contribution to carbon reduction efforts.
A Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals
This initiative directly contributes to the sustainable development goals set forth by the United Nations, particularly goals aimed at combating climate change and preserving terrestrial ecosystems. By offering guests an environmentally friendly accommodation option, Japanese Hotels Co., Ltd. is not only promoting their commitment to sustainability but also enhancing the travel experience by allowing guests to contribute positively to the planet.
