This round, led by Kindred Ventures and supported by Salesforce Ventures and the Sony Innovation Fund, has brought their overall funding total to $23 million. This significant investment aims to propel the company forward as it optimizes its voice AI model for East Asian languages.

Cutting-Edge Technology

The company’s core product, the Koto voice platform, has been developed to power real-time voice applications. This includes AI agents, smart hardware devices, and simultaneous voice translation. Notably, Koto achieves industry-leading performance in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, making it an ideal solution for businesses operating in these markets.

Koto offers flexibility in deployment, as it can function as a speech-to-speech model or as component models like ultra-low latency Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-to-Speech (TTS). Future Prospects

The funds acquired will be strategically invested into three key areas aimed at enhancing voice AI platforms in East Asia:

1. Speech-to-Speech Development: Koto has already demonstrated translation latency of under two seconds. The company plans to keep investing in this model to improve translation quality further while expanding its applications to AI agents and smart devices.

2. On-Device Deployment: Koto is currently operational on devices used by corporate clients in both Asia and the United States. The company intends to focus on optimizing performance on edge chips and developing partnerships to penetrate various distribution channels like automotive, electronics, and AI wearables.

3. Agent Deployment: Enhancements to the Koto ecosystem will focus on global corporate customers and accelerate entry into Asian markets. This will also include upstream development of model ecosystems and support for customer on-site implementations.

API and SDK Release

Koto has already been successfully deployed in prominent organizations, including Fortune Global 500 companies and fast-growing AI startups. Its uses include AI voice agents, voice interfaces for contact centers, wearables, and real-time translation solutions. To foster developer engagement, Kotoba Technologies has released an alpha version of its API and a user-friendly Python SDK. These enhancements make the speech-to-speech simultaneous translation model along with super low-latency ASR and TTS models accessible through an API, with on-device models available for testing via API/SDK as well.

Rapid Advancement of Kotoba App

The Koto model is also widely utilized through the company’s simultaneous translation application, Kotoba. Catering to both professional and corporate users across East Asia, the app provides flag-quality, seamless simultaneous translation, meeting minutes, and AI summarization. This fosters real-time multilingual communication across 21 languages, with five targeted for Koto.

In June, the app underwent a major update featuring 11 new functionalities and significant UI/UX enhancements. Additionally, a meeting agent feature for remote conferencing is set for release in July, further strengthening support for corporate users. The user base for the Kotoba app has surpassed 180,000, and daily download rates continue to rise, highlighting its rapid growth within the East Asian market.
