Experience the Future of Coffee at Blue Bottle Studio Kyoto from April to May 2026

Discover the Future of Coffee at Blue Bottle Studio Kyoto

Blue Bottle Coffee Japan LLC proudly announces an exclusive coffee course entitled “Future of Coffee” at the Blue Bottle Studio – Kyoto, scheduled to run from April 1 to May 18, 2026. This special event promises attendees an immersive experience into the world of coffee, curated under the guidance of founder James Freeman and Senior Director of Global Coffee Experience Benjamin Brewer.

Located in a beautifully renovated Kyoto machiya—a traditional wooden townhouse—Blue Bottle Studio – Kyoto offers an intimate setting with only five seats available per session. Guests will enjoy a meticulously crafted coffee course consisting of six beverages and three delectable sweets. Each coffee is distinctively chosen by James and Benjamin and showcases non-Arabica varieties such as Liberica and Excelsa.

The Unique Coffees of the Season

This Spring, the offerings feature Liberica sourced from Vietnam and Malaysia, along with Excelsa from India. Despite their rarity, comparable to just about 1% of global coffee distribution, these varieties hold promising potential for the future of coffee. Notably, both Liberica and Excelsa are known for their extraordinary flavor profiles, characterized by rich sweetness and a fragrant aroma reminiscent of fruit.

These types of coffee bear larger fruits than their Arabica counterparts. Unlike low-growing Arabica plants, Liberica and Excelsa grow as deep-rooted trees, enabling them to thrive in challenging environments such as drought or low altitude. They are categorized as sustainable choices for coffee cultivation.

Sweet Delights to Accompany Your Coffee

To enhance the coffee experience, guests can savor sweets inspired by the tropical characteristics of the coffee-producing regions. Think of part-de-fruit with pineapple and lime, evoking the vibrant world surrounding these unique coffees.

Join us this Spring in Kyoto to explore how we envision the future of coffee. This is a unique opportunity to engage with Blue Bottle Coffee's innovative concepts.

Coffee Course Experience

The Blue Bottle Studio – Kyoto – Coffee Course, priced at ¥8,910, lasts 90 minutes and is conducted in a cozy private space. It commences with a specially curated playlist by James Freeman, whose musical sensitivity elevates the coffee-tasting experience.

Kick off with an original drink made from coffee leaves, flowers, and fruit, showcasing the lesser-known allure of the coffee plant. Participants will also experience an instant coffee made from Excelsa beans, and a comparative tasting of Liberica and Excelsa, highlighting the future developments in coffee production. Drawing inspiration from Japanese tea culture, the course concludes with a robust cup brewed using the ‘Neru drip’ method, paired with a spiced digestif.

As a refreshing treat between coffee servings, we offer three unique sweets developed specifically for the course. These include a light cracker featuring the gentle sweetness of roasted soy flour and roasted barley, a financier bursting with coconut aroma, and the aforementioned part-de-fruit, which harmoniously balances the sweetness and acidity of pineapple with the freshness of lime and basil.

Only at Blue Bottle Studio will you experience the limitless possibilities within the world of coffee – a unique glimpse into the future awaits!
