SK Chemicals' Participation at K 2025
SK Chemicals is set to showcase its impressive array of commercially available materials and sustainable solutions at the K 2025 trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany, taking place from October 8 to 15. This event, renowned as the world's largest plastics and rubber trade show, serves as a significant platform for innovations in the plastics industry.
The Significance of K 2025
The K fair, held every three years, is one of the premier exhibitions globally alongside NPE in the USA and Chinaplas in China. This year’s theme, "The Power of Plastics! Green, Smart, Responsible," reflects a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, bringing together over 3,000 companies from 61 countries.
SK Chemicals' Commitment to Sustainability
At K 2025, SK Chemicals plans to present more than 70 commercially available end products and industrial goods that showcase their advancements in recycling technologies. The exhibition will be organized around the key themes of recyclability, recycled materials, and bio-solutions, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.
One of the highlights will be a designated Recycle Zone featuring real parts made from circular recycled materials, like SKYPET CR and ECOTRIA CLARO, tailored for various industries, including cosmetics, automotive, food and beverage, and fashion. This interactive exhibit will illustrate the entire closed-loop process, from the collection of plastic waste to material production and commercialization.
Innovations in the Automotive Sector
In response to the rapidly growing automotive segment, SK Chemicals will unveil new applications derived from recycled materials. Notable products include yarn and finished vehicle mats made from SKYPET CR, developed in collaboration with Durmont, an Austrian company. The showcase will also feature a headliner crafted from SKYPET CR used in the Hyundai IONIQ 5, highlighting innovative solutions in automotive interiors.
Exploration of Bio Solutions
Moreover, SK Chemicals will display products from ECOZEN, a high-heat resistant copolyester with a biomass content of up to 15%. These include kitchen utensils, food containers, children’s dinnerware, and sports water bottles. The range will also present ECOTRION, a 100% bio-based polyol, applicable in spandex and artificial leather, as well as end products like bags, shoes, gloves, and golf balls.
In addition to these innovations, SKYGREEN, a copolyester known for its high transparency and chemical resistance suitable for cosmetics and food packaging, will also be featured. Another component is SKYPEL, a polyester-based thermoplastic elastomer that combines gum-like elasticity with the performance of technical plastics, ideal for automotive parts and breathable films.
Insights on Market Trends
The K 2025 trade show arrives shortly after the enforcement of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), positioning Europe as the quickest region to adopt recycled materials. Industry forecasts suggest that the European recycled PET market will experience an annual growth rate exceeding 7%, while the global plastic recycling market is predicted to reach $120 billion by 2030, up from $58 billion in 2019.
Looking Ahead
As the circular economy becomes a crucial requirement in global markets, SK Chemicals aims to provide readily available recycling and bio-solutions recognized for their quality and market readiness. According to CEO Ahn Jae-hyun, the company plans to strengthen its technological and brand leadership as the industry transitions toward recycled plastics. This proactive stance not only enhances SK Chemicals' reputation but also furthers collaboration with global enterprises, driving sustainable development across the sector.
