Park Systems Strengthens Probing Capabilities with Rocky Mountain Acquisition

Park Systems Corp., the preeminent name in atomic force microscopy (AFM) solutions, has recently completed the significant acquisition of Rocky Mountain Nanotechnology (RMN), a key player in the market for ultra-high-purity solid platinum and platinum-iridium AFM probes. This strategic acquisition opens up new avenues for Park Systems as it marks its inaugural foray into probe manufacturing, further consolidating its supply chain for a critical component in AFM applications.

Founded in 2003 by Dr. Clayton Williams, a former professor of physics at the University of Utah and ex-researcher at IBM, RMN has built an impressive reputation for over two decades in the production of ultra-sharp solid-metal AFM probes. These probes feature unprecedented tip radii shrinking to as small as 10 nanometers, supporting various advanced and electrical AFM modes specific to high-voltage operations. RMN's technologies facilitate several applications such as Conductive AFM (C-AFM), Electrostatic Force Microscopy (EFM), Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (KPFM), and others that are critical in materials characterization and nanoscale research. Customers include leading universities and corporate research institutions across the globe, evidence of the credibility and demand for their high-quality products.

In a statement regarding the acquisition, Dr. Sang-il Park, Founder and CEO of Park Systems, articulated the strategic importance of RMN’s solid-metal probe technology. He emphasized how this technology directly complements Park Systems’ own advanced electrical measurement methods as well as their next-generation nanoprobing systems currently under development. The acquisition will provide a stable supply of high-performance specialty probes, essential to the electrical measurement solutions for which Park Systems is known, and thus accelerating their innovation trajectory.

Following this acquisition, Park Systems intends to establish a dedicated probe production facility situated in South Korea. This venture will leverage technology transfer from RMN's existing operations in Salt Lake City, Utah. To safeguard the interests of its current clientele and ensure an uninterrupted supply chain during this transition phase, RMN’s U.S. facility will continue to operate fully, guaranteeing that products are delivered without delay.

Dr. Clayton Williams also shared insights into the new horizons opened by joining forces with Park Systems. This partnership provides RMN with the ability to enhance the reach of its probe technology and embark on ambitious applications that would have been unattainable independently. It positions the combined entity more robustly within the competitive landscape of the global AFM probe market.

For existing RMN customers, the acquisition promises continuity as they can continue procuring products as usual. In the near future, Park Systems plans to introduce new probe offerings alongside an expanded product lineup that reflects the combined expertise of the two organizations.

Park Systems has established itself as a global leader in nanometrology, offering cutting-edge measurement solutions for various applications in research and industry. Operating through regional offices across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, Park Systems serves industries spanning semiconductor manufacturing, materials science, and nanotechnology research. Its sophisticated technology portfolio encompasses not only AFM but also imaging spectroscopic ellipsometry, digital holographic microscopy, and numerous other advanced measurement techniques.

With the acquisition of Rocky Mountain Nanotechnology, Park Systems is poised to enhance its innovative capabilities in the nanotechnology sector, fortifying its position as a leading force in the global market.
