IITTALA and BYREDO Unveil Their First Collaboration: The LJUS Collection

IITTALA and BYREDO's Unique Collaboration: The LJUS Collection

IITTALA, a renowned design brand under Fiskars Japan, has joined forces with the contemporary fragrance and beauty brand BYREDO, established in Stockholm. This remarkable partnership marks the debut of their limited edition collection called LJUS, focused on exploring the interplay between light and scent. With a shared commitment to craftsmanship and deep respect for materials, both brands blend their legacies into an extraordinary glass collection designed to transform ordinary moments into something special.

A New Perspective on Light

At the heart of this collection is the innovative approach of perceiving light not merely as a visual element but as a tangible material that can be shaped much like glass or clay. The LJUS collection embodies this concept, with pieces that mimic the changing qualities of Nordic light, from the brilliance of white nights to the tranquility of winter’s dusk. These sculptural glass forms not only reflect the ethereal beauty of light but also evoke a narrative through the interplay of transparency and the warm glow of candlelight.

The collection brings together contrasting elements: the icy clarity of glass and the flickering flames of candles, creating an atmosphere of warmth and subtle tension in any space. Each piece serves as a bridge between permanence and transience, encapsulating the unique essence of the Nordic landscape that is characterized by its fluctuating light conditions.

Artisanal Craftsmanship

Crafted in the historic IITTALA glass factory, which boasts over 140 years of tradition, each piece in the LJUS collection is handmade by skilled artisans. The process involves blowing life into molten glass at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius, where artisans use their breath and touch to shape the material. The slight variations in form and surface visible on each object are not defects but rather attest to the glass being a ‘living material,’ revealing the human touch that cannot be replicated by machines. This synthesis of IITTALA’s traditional glass-making techniques with BYREDO’s modern storytelling creates a special ambiance, weaving together scents and sight into a coherent emotional experience.

Insights from IITTALA's Creative Director

Janni Vepsäläinen, IITTALA’s Creative Director, reflects on the collaboration: “Nordic light reveals truths without embellishment. In this collaboration, light is treated as a material shaped by human hands and senses. When IITTALA glass meets BYREDO fire, a new, essential, understated, and deeply human light emerges.”

Upcoming Events and Launch Schedule

The public will get a sneak peek at the philosophy behind this collaboration with a sculptural installation scheduled to debut at the MATTER and SHAPE event in Paris in March 2026. The full LJUS collection is set for a global launch in October 2026, just in time for the holiday season.
