Tsukuba University Women's Lacrosse Team Targets Division 2 Promotion via Crowdfunding
Starting on March 16, 2026, the Tsukuba University Women's Lacrosse team will embark on a significant crowdfunding project: “Reach Beyond – Aiming for Promotion to Division 2.” This initiative, spearheaded by Spportunity, a crowdfunding platform focused on supporting sports teams and athletes, aims to secure funding for team strengthening activities.
Founded in 2005, the Tsukuba University Women's Lacrosse team embraces the motto “Connect and Overcome” as they strive for promotion within the Kanto Collegiate Lacrosse League. The team seeks to leverage the support of their local community as they aim to ascend to Division 2, a league currently dominated by universities based in the Greater Tokyo area. A primary hurdle for the team is the cost of travel, which can surpass 100,000 yen per match when the entire team must embark on away games, creating a heavy financial burden for student athletes.
As the welcoming season for new students approaches, the team faces the need to establish a solid financial foundation to ensure that incoming members can join without anxiety. This crowdfunding campaign is intended to alleviate some of those burdens and strengthen the team’s operational capacity.
Background and Motivation for Crowdfunding (Captain: Aoi Matsumaru)
We, the Tsukuba University Women’s Lacrosse team, are dedicated to realizing our dream of reaching Division 2. While we are committed to rigorous training, the financial demands required to sustain our operations present significant challenges. Each trip to play matches in Tokyo incurs costs of approximately 5,000 yen per person. When we travel as a team, these expenses accumulate to over 100,000 yen on each occasion.
Additionally, the overall equipment needed for lacrosse, including sticks, protective gear, and cleats, amounts to around 80,000 yen, placing a substantial financial load on new students.
Through this crowdfunding effort, we aim to enrich our recruitment activities, subsidize travel expenses, and acquire essential gear. We earnestly ask for your warm support in making our dream of promotion a reality!
