Okayama University Students Attend One Young World Global Summit 2025 Send-off Ceremony
Okayama University, a prominent national university located in Okayama City, recently sent representatives to the send-off ceremony for the One Young World (OYW) Global Summit 2025, scheduled to take place in Munich, Germany from November 3-6. Among those present were Nazyra Tachiara Azla, a third-year student in the Global Discovery Program, and Aimo Ishikawa, a fifth-year medical student. This marks the university's continued commitment to nurturing young leaders, having participated since the Bangkok summit in 2015.
The send-off ceremony was characterized by inspiration and encouragement, with a keynote speech delivered by Koji Okubo, the President of the One Young World Japan Committee. The audience also enjoyed a video message from on-site partner companies, extending their warm welcome to the participants. Former summit ambassadors shared their experiences to motivate this year’s attendees, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and the value of their contributions.
Following the ceremony, participants engaged in workshops focused on the themes of the upcoming Tokyo conference in 2027, allowed them to exchange ideas and deepen their connections. The Munich summit promises a vibrant exchange of ideas, with discussions centered around key global challenges and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Azla and Ishikawa, along with the other members of the OYW Japan delegation, are poised to discuss critical topics, such as Circular Economy, Anti-Hate, Responsible Technology, Education, and Peace & Security.
What is One Young World?
Launched in 2010 in London following a declaration at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2009, One Young World is one of the world's largest international summits, convening young leaders from over 190 countries annually. The summit aims to address global challenges by enabling collaboration among young talents under the guidance of recognized global leaders. Each participant gains the title of “OYW Ambassador,” creating lasting connections with approximately 17,000 other exceptional young leaders worldwide.
Support for One Young World comes from a variety of figures, including Nobel Peace Prize laureates such as Muhammad Yunus, and high-profile politicians, industry leaders, cultural icons, media personalities, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and artists. This diverse network of support underlines the summit’s influence and the vital role it plays in developing future leaders who are equipped to tackle pressing global issues.
As Okayama University prepares to send Azla and Ishikawa to this prestigious summit, the university underscores its dedication to fostering global awareness and the growth of its students into capable leaders. The students' participation in such an internationally recognized event is not only a personal achievement but also a testament to Okayama University’s focus on promoting educational excellence and civic engagement.
