Stockbridge Expands Into Private Wealth Management

Stockbridge, a prominent force in real estate investment management, has officially announced the launch of its Private Wealth business, marking a significant step towards catering to individual investors and wealth advisors. This new initiative aims to secure capital across various private wealth channels, including independent broker-dealers, registered investment advisors, wirehouses, private banks, and family offices.

Kristin Renaudin, the Chief Financial Officer at Stockbridge, stated, “Historically, Stockbridge has built a strong reputation among institutional investors. However, we've identified a substantial opportunity to broaden our horizons into the private wealth sector.” The firm recognizes that venturing into private wealth will not only diversify their investor base but also enhance their overall growth strategy moving forward.

To effectively tap into this new market, Stockbridge collaborated with Robert A. Stanger & Company, a well-respected investment bank recognized for its expertise in alternative investment products. This partnership is expected to facilitate the exploration of promising opportunities within the private wealth space.

In a proactive move to bolster its Private Wealth team, Stockbridge appointed seasoned industry professionals Vere Reynolds-Hale and Chris Lundberg. These individuals bring a wealth of experience from their previous roles at Apollo Global Management, where they were instrumental in accelerating the company’s U.S. wealth market expansion. Notably, their efforts at Griffin Capital Securities led to the successful raising of over $16 billion in investor equity, demonstrating their capability in the field.

As Stockbridge builds its Private Wealth business, it plans to incorporate a dedicated team of roughly 20 client-facing distribution professionals, along with operational support staff. The firm’s internal sales and operations personnel will operate from Phoenix, Arizona, while regional sales directors and consultants will be strategically positioned across the nation.

“Recruiting Vere and Chris aligns with our commitment to assembling strong teams with extensive experience in the industry,” Renaudin added. “We are eager to collaborate closely with them as we expand our Private Wealth offerings.”

Stockbridge intends to introduce an array of real estate investment products targeting U.S. private wealth channels within the next few years. Initially, the firm will focus on investments in the residential rental market, inclusive of traditional multifamily properties and specialized sectors such as single-family build-to-rent communities.

The firm’s priorities are centered on acquiring high-quality assets that support sustainable shareholder distributions in the long term, all while aiming for an increase in property values that contribute positively to overall shareholder equity. Mark Alfieri has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer for the firm’s initial residential investing platform under Private Wealth.

Founded in 2003, Stockbridge has established a robust platform in real estate investment management, boasting a team of seasoned professionals who bring an average of 25 years of industry experience. With approximately $33.9 billion in assets under management, as of September 30, 2024, the firm manages diverse real estate equity investments spanning various property types, focusing heavily on residential and industrial spaces throughout the U.S. The company has offices strategically located in cities including San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, and Phoenix.

In summary, Stockbridge's foray into private wealth management not only signifies growth for the firm but also presents a well-timed opportunity for individual investors seeking reliable avenues for investment in real estate. As the landscape for investment continues to evolve, Stockbridge is positioning itself to meet the diverse needs of its clients and investors alike.
