DiMe Introduces Practical Resources for AI Governance in Healthcare
The Digital Medicine Society (DiMe) has unveiled a new initiative titled "Operationalizing AI Governance in Healthcare", aiming to equip health systems and technology companies with practical tools for the effective governance of artificial intelligence (AI) applications. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical principles and practical implementation, thereby ensuring that AI technologies serve the healthcare sector responsibly and effectively.
Launching under DiMe's Connected Health Collaborative Community (CHcc), this initiative is significantly supported by Qualified Health, which is serving as the title sponsor. The project promises to deliver a range of essential resources that will be directly beneficial to health organizations of varying sizes and operational capabilities. Among the offerings are risk assessment templates, performance monitoring guides, and real-world case studies that health systems can readily implement.
A recent survey conducted across more than 230 health systems indicated that an alarming 82% reported having minimal or no governance processes in place for the AI solutions they were already using. Existing frameworks often remain too abstract, leaving healthcare leaders without a solid pathway to manage risks prior to AI deployment and to monitor ongoing performance later. DiMe plans to rectify this by curating and integrating existing guidance into useful resources tailored for grassroots implementation. These resources will include templates for governance committee charters, risk-triage toolkits, and an accessible repository of performance metrics specifically designed for predictive and generative AI.
This new initiative is a continuation of DiMe's ongoing commitment to enhance AI deployment in healthcare as illustrated in their previously released "The Playbook Implementing AI in Healthcare", developed in collaboration with Google for Health. It also complements DiMe's 2026 portfolio of AI initiatives, which includes the notable "Scaling Trusted, High-Impact AI Care Navigation" that was launched in January 2026.
Jennifer Goldsack, CEO of DiMe, pointed out that the concept of AI governance is often entangled with complexity, which inadvertently hinders progress in the field. "Health systems are in need of practical tools to evaluate AI, make informed decisions, track performance over time, and be adaptive as technology advances," she remarked. DiMe aims to bring together leaders in the field of healthcare AI to assemble a customized suite of resources that organizations can utilize immediately, hoping to transform AI governance from a perceived obstacle into a facilitator of responsible adoption.
The initiative will roll out its resources progressively after developing them through a series of focused sprints, rather than waiting for a singular release. Furthermore, a significant showcase of the initiative's developments is planned for HLTH 2026, scheduled for November.
Justin Norden, CEO of Qualified Health, emphasized the ongoing transformation every healthcare provider is facing as they adapt to modern technology. "Sponsoring this initiative not only underlines our support for health systems already leading responsible AI deployment but also aids the broader community in learning from those practices," he stated.
This initiative is backed by a wide array of partnerships that include prominent organizations such as the American Psychological Association, Children's Nebraska, and several healthcare institutions and technology firms committed to advancing AI governance. DiMe invites additional organizations interested in contributing to this initiative to join the movement within a specified period following this announcement.
The Digital Medicine Society (DiMe) continues its mission as a leading non-governmental organization dedicated to digitizing health, health care, and health research, striving to create sustainable solutions and resources for the betterment of patient care and healthcare delivery. The initiative's open-access resources and collaborative efforts showcase DiMe's dedication to fostering responsible digital transformation in healthcare for the future.
