Sunkist Growers, Inc. and Fruit Growers Supply Company Strategic Reorganization
In a significant shift aimed at increasing operational effectiveness and market competitiveness,
Sunkist Growers, Inc., a renowned citrus cooperative that has been in operation since 1893, announced a strategic reorganization in collaboration with its sister entity,
Fruit Growers Supply Company, which has provided services since 1907. Set to take effect on
November 1, 2025, this reorganization will result in the formation of a new California cooperative, officially named Sunkist Growers, Inc., which will act as the holding company for both organizations.
The primary motivation behind this merger is to foster innovation and efficiency for the benefit of customers and growers alike. As Jim Phillips, President and CEO of both companies, stated, “We are excited to bring together the deep sales and marketing experience of Sunkist with the supply chain expertise of Fruit Growers Supply. This will allow for a more seamless experience for both customers and growers.” This sentiment reflects a broader ambition to streamline services and ensure a cohesive strategy moving forward.
The two companies have experienced a growing alignment since implementing a shared management structure in
2017. This cooperation has yielded numerous benefits and positioned them favorably for future challenges in the citrus sector, which are becoming increasingly complex and competitive. Their new five-year strategic plan will chart the course for this combined entity, presenting a clear vision and defined growth pathway for the future.
“Together, Sunkist and Fruit Growers Supply have been sister companies for over a century, and we believe this reorganization enhances our readiness for the rapidly changing citrus market,” commented Gerald Denni, Chairman of the Board for both organizations. This move signifies an evolutionary step in their partnership and acknowledges their strengthened cooperation over the years.
As the leadership team is formed for the parent company, it will include key figures from both Sunkist and Fruit Growers Supply, ensuring a smooth transition for stakeholders, including customers, growers, and employees. This strategic realignment seeks to enhance operational capabilities and leverage existing strengths to create a unified front in addressing market demands.
