2026 NANOscientific Symposium Launches in Korea



On August 20-21, 2026, Park Systems Corp. inaugurated the NANOscientific Symposium (NSS) series with its first event in Gwacheon, South Korea, bringing together nearly 200 researchers and professionals. This significant gathering showcased not only advancements in atomic force microscopy (AFM) but also an expansion of the discussion towards artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor metrology, and more.

Expanding Horizons of Nanoscale Research


The NSS Korea event marked a notable evolution in the nanoscale research community. The agenda moved beyond the core interest in AFM, delving into AI applications, nanoscale infrared spectroscopy, optical measurements, and innovative packaging technologies. This shift reflects the growing need within the scientific community to adapt to the rapidly evolving landscape of nanoscale technology.

In 2025, the global NSS series attracted over 700 participants and will continue in cities like Prague, Boston, Kuala Lumpur, and Tokyo as part of its 2026 series.

Confluence of AI and Nanoscale Measurement


A key highlight of NSS Korea was focused on how AI is becoming integral to nanoscale measurements. Dr. Byung-Ho Lee, Executive Vice President at Park Systems, delivered a keynote on the significant transformations ongoing in the semiconductor industry. He emphasized the transition from two-dimensional to more complex three-dimensional device architectures, marking AI and deep learning’s increasing importance in metrology and inspection.

Sungkyunkwan University’s Prof. Yunseok Kim showcased an AI-driven AFM workflow utilizing the Park FX40. By applying machine learning for image reconstruction, he illustrated the potential for accelerating the characterization of nanoscale materials without sacrificing data integrity.

Prof. Hyo Jung Kim from Pusan National University introduced a groundbreaking study using photo-induced force microscopy (PiFM) to examine crystal alignment in perovskite solar cell layers, demonstrating practical applications of the technology alongside earlier research. With notable presentations tracing PiFM’s fundamentals to its application in nanostructures, Park Systems further illustrated their expanding nano-IR product lineup, including the newly launched FX40 IR.

Innovations in Semiconductor Manufacturing


Discussions on semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging also gained prominence with contributions from industry giants like Samsung and SK hynix. These presentations addressed the increasing demand for precise methodologies concerning surface topography, overlay, and defect inspection in high-bandwidth memory and three-dimensional integrated circuits.

Park Systems also utilized this platform to present its growing Industrial AFM portfolio aimed at advanced packaging solutions. These discussions underscore a significant industry shift towards enhanced measurement technologies that can manage complex materials and architectures while ensuring high-throughput and accurate data collection.

Hands-On Demonstrations Drive Engagement


On the second day, participants engaged with hands-on workshops illustrating the potential of Research AFM, Industrial AFM, nano-IR, and optical measurement technologies. Applications covered a wide range, from atomic-scale imaging and electrical characterization to surface measurements, showcasing the versatility of Park Systems' offerings in the market.
