Huawei Unveils StarryLink Optical Modules for Ultimate Network Experience

Huawei Introduces StarryLink Optical Modules

At the Mobile World Congress 2025, Huawei made a significant announcement regarding the launch of its latest optical modules, known as StarryLink. These modules are tailored to transform network experiences by focusing on key factors such as high stability, secure connections, and expansive distance capabilities. In the session titled "Building New Data Centers in the Intelligent Era," over 100 clients and partners from diverse regions gathered to exchange insights and delve into emerging trends in data center networks.

The Need for Enhanced Network Solutions

As the landscape of artificial intelligence evolves, training models are becoming increasingly complex, pushing past tens of billions of parameters. This escalation demands a substantial upgrade in switching capacities and calls for a significant evolution in data center switches. To maintain effective interconnections among high-capacity switches, optical modules have to transition from single pathways of 56 Gbps to 112 Gbps. However, this shift encounters several hurdles:
  • - Transmission Distance: Expanding data centers necessitate support for longer transmission distances.
  • - Reliability: Issues like optical module failures and fiber contamination are on the rise.
  • - Security: Exposed optical fibers during equipment room interconnections pose risks to sensitive data.

StarryLink's Key Features

Huawei’s StarryLink optical modules are designed to tackle these challenges effectively, ensuring high-quality network experiences through three essential capabilities:
1. Spanning: With a unique optical path coupling algorithm, Huawei optimizes signal power distribution, enabling transmission distances that are twice the industry average.
2. Stable: The short-range optical return loss positioning technology allows Huawei to detect faults in optical links significantly quicker than the industry standard, reducing detection time from three hours to mere minutes. This exclusive channel loss resistance technology maintains operation even if the connection is interrupted, substantially enhancing reliability.
3. Secure: The integrated PHYSEC in the optical module ensures complete encryption of all packets, effectively eliminating data leakage risks.

Arthur Wang, the President of the Data Center Networks Domain at Huawei, remarked, “Our StarryLink optical module showcases our commitment to innovation by providing high-performance optical solutions for seamless interconnections. These modules ensure ultra-reliable and long-distance transmission, guaranteeing ultimate network performance with ‘3S’ quality.”

Future Directions

Looking ahead, Huawei plans to partner with industry stakeholders to foster research and innovation in optical modules for data center networks. The aim is to drive intelligent network upgrades and generational evolution that will create heightened value for both clients and the broader industry.

In summary, as networks become increasingly complex, solutions like Huawei's StarryLink modules highlight the importance of adapting to changing demands while prioritizing reliability, security, and expansive connectivity.
