The 'Kakera' Exhibition by Makiko Takemura at THE GALLERY

Starting from May 20, 2025, Nikon Imaging Japan, a subsidiary of Nikon Corporation, will host a remarkable photography exhibition titled "Kakera" by the talented artist Makiko Takemura at THE GALLERY in both Tokyo and Osaka. This selection exhibition aims to highlight the intricate relationship between human perception and the diverse facets of existence, as captured through Takemura's lens.

A Glimpse into the Artist’s Perspective

Makiko Takemura reflects on the various aspects of the world, both seen and unseen, emphasizing that what one perceives is merely a fragment—a “kakera”—of a much broader reality. She encourages her audience to recognize that every individual's view of the world is unique, shaped by their own experiences and emotions. The theme of her exhibition revolves around “the time I’ve spent and the world I’ve seen,” showcasing photographs that depict snippets of her daily life as they effortlessly vanish into the past.

Takemura's Artistic Journey

Born in Osaka in 1982, Takemura's artistic journey began at the Seian College of Art and Design, where she graduated in 2003. Under the mentorship of renowned photographer Tetsuya Maeda, she honed her craft until establishing her own studio in Kitahama in 2011. Her work primarily focuses on advertising, fashion, beauty, and travel photography, while also dedicating her weekends to capturing family portraits at her weekend photography space, Takemura Photo Studio.

Throughout her career, Takemura has exhibited her work in notable shows such as her solo exhibition “Aoi” in May 2024, and participated in various group exhibitions, contributing significantly to the photography community.
