Nippon Gakki Manufacturing Co., Ltd. announces the reopening of its early grand piano for public viewing starting May 1st. This remarkable grand piano, designated as a tangible cultural property by Minato City in October 2022, has undergone vital repairs due to degradation over time. The restoration process took place over two years, starting from the fiscal year 2024 to 2025, ensuring that this significant instrument is preserved for future generations.

The grand piano will be displayed at the 2nd-floor Communication Room of the Minato City Museum of Local History, located at 6-2 Shirokanedai 4-chome. Entry to view this cultural artifact will be free of charge, allowing music enthusiasts and history buffs alike to appreciate its beauty and historical significance.

Viewing Hours


The museum will welcome visitors from 9 AM to 5 PM, with extended hours until 8 PM on Saturdays. Please note that the museum is closed on the third Thursday of each month (if there’s a holiday, it will close the previous day) and during the year-end holidays from December 29 to January 3.

Restoration Process


The restoration work was carried out by expert professionals in the field. Yamaha Corporation played a crucial role in cleaning and repairing wood components, while the Graduate School of Conservation at Tokyo University of the Arts took care of the external polishing and painting restoration, ensuring that the piano's intricate details and aesthetics are fully preserved.
