The Empyrean Club: A Cultural Renaissance in Brooklyn
The Empyrean Club is set to become a transformative cultural hub in Brooklyn, providing a unique blend of theatre, dining, nightlife, and social experiences. Scheduled to launch in 2027, this innovative venue will kick off its journey with the exclusive New York City production of the musical
American Psycho, redefining how art and social interaction converge in modern society.
Located at 421 Troutman Street in the vibrant Bushwick neighborhood, which has recently gained recognition as one of America’s most exciting areas, the Empyrean Club will span an impressive
10,300 square feet and host up to
590 guests. At the heart of its offerings will be a
299-seat mainstage theatre, all designed under a captivating post-modern architectural vision. This venue promises not only entertainment but a complete night-out experience where performances flow seamlessly into cocktail receptions, intimate dining spaces, and late-night conversations.
A Visionary Leadership Team
The Empyrean Club is brought to life by an outstanding leadership team that defies conventional norms. Max Hunter, the Founding Artistic Director of The Bridge Production Group, will oversee the theatrical direction and helm
American Psycho. Alongside him is Lucas Katler, a Tony Award-winning producer, who will manage the business and long-term strategies of the club, and Jesse Singer, the founder of Neon Noir, who leads the architecture and experiential design.
This multifaceted partnership lays the groundwork for a venture that blends theatre with the excitement of social engagement. The club is approaching programming from a multidisciplinary perspective, inviting local artists and community members to influence its offerings. An artist advisory board is in the process of formation, ensuring that the Empyrean’s programming remains vibrant and connected to the local creative ecosystem.
Reviving American Psycho
As the inaugural production,
American Psycho will serve as the cornerstone of the Empyrean’s evolving entertainment profile. Directed by Max Hunter, this new interpretation resonates with contemporary societal themes;
Bret Easton Ellis's satirical tale of consumerism and identity takes on renewed significance in today's culture, where image and success are often pursued at all costs.
The musical boasts a robust creative team, with a book crafted by
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa—the notable playwright and creator behind hits like
Riverdale—and music and lyrics from
Duncan Sheik, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer famed for
Spring Awakening. Choreographer
Baye Asa will bring movement to the stage, ensuring that the production not only tells a compelling story but also captivates audiences visually.
An Integrated Cultural Experience
Beyond theatre, the Empyrean Club is designed to function across numerous cultural verticals, including diverse food and beverage offerings, dynamic nightlife experiences, and membership opportunities. The club's programming will include various art forms— theatre, live music, dance, cabaret performances, comedy, and more—allowing attendees to engage with multiple events in a single visit. According to Hunter, the Empyrean Club aspires to be “a garden of earthly delights,” emphasizing connection and joy as integral parts of the cultural experience.
Architectural and Interior Innovations
The design of the Empyrean Club reflects a modern and flexible approach to space. Led by
Seth Byrum, an accomplished architect and theatrical set designer, the venue will feature dynamic, engaging interiors. Collaborating with respected design teams, including
commoncraft and
SAFWAT BY SAFWAT, the architecture will allow the venue to transition seamlessly from formal theatre to intimate lounges and vibrant dance areas.
Celebrated chef
Ham El-Waylly will head the culinary offerings, infusing a sophisticated and exciting menu into the overall experience. The cocktail program, led by renowned bartender
John deBary, promises to elevate the dining experience within the Empyrean’s sophisticated environment.
Looking Ahead: Expansion Plans
The Empyrean Club symbolizes a new era in cultural spaces, poised for expansion into cities such as
Austin, Los Angeles, Miami, and even
Tokyo. As Lucas Katler noted, engaging younger audiences requires reimagining how theatre is presented. The Empyrean Club aims to create a vibrant, social atmosphere that fosters a lasting connection between art and urban life.
In a rapidly evolving cultural landscape, the Empyrean Club stands at the forefront, offering a fresh take on live art and entertainment. With the opening of
American Psycho, it is clear that this venue is not just a place to watch a show but a space to connect, share, and experience the richness of contemporary culture.
