East Bay Surgery Center Achieves Leapfrog's Top Ambulatory Surgery Center Honor for 2025

East Bay Surgery Center Honored as a Top Ambulatory Surgery Center for 2025

In a remarkable achievement, East Bay Surgery Center (EBSC) in Swansea, Massachusetts, has been awarded the esteemed title of "Top Ambulatory Surgery Center" for 2025 by The Leapfrog Group. This recognition marks the first time EBSC has received such a prestigious accolade, highlighting its unwavering commitment to excellence in clinical quality and patient safety.

The Leapfrog Group, recognized as one of the most stringent evaluators of healthcare safety and quality in the United States, selects only a small number of centers to receive this designation. Out of thousands of ambulatory surgery centers across the country, only 37 were honored, putting EBSC in an elite category for its clinical outcomes and dedication to patient care.

The evaluation conducted by Leapfrog is based on comprehensive national measures that assess safety and quality, rewarding those centers that demonstrate superior adherence to best practices aimed at preventing patient harm while ensuring high patient satisfaction levels.

In addition to this accolade, EBSC was acknowledged as one of U.S. News & World Report's "Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers" for ophthalmology in both 2024 and 2025, further solidifying its status as a leader in outpatient surgical care at both a regional and national level.

Established in 2005, EBSC is a joint venture between the Constitution Surgery Alliance (CSA) and prominent surgeons in southeastern Massachusetts. The facility has earned its reputation for delivering advanced outpatient surgical care, particularly in areas of ophthalmic surgery, which includes procedures for cataracts, ocular plastic surgery, glaucoma, and corneal transplants. With an impressive record of over 10,000 surgeries performed annually, the focus on patient safety and exceptional clinical results remains paramount.

William Varr, MD, Medical Director at EBSC, expressed gratitude for the recognition: "We are deeply honored to be recognized by The Leapfrog Group as a Top Ambulatory Surgery Center. This achievement reflects the unwavering dedication of our entire clinical team to providing the safest, highest-quality surgical care possible. Each member of our staff is committed to excellence and ensuring that every patient receives compassionate care. This commitment being recognized on a national level is something we are particularly proud of."

Similarly, Joanne Swift, MBA, BSN, RN, Administrator and Director of Nursing at EBSC, commented on the award: "We are incredibly proud to receive this national recognition, which enhances the hard work and collaboration displayed by our entire staff. Our team's commitment to excellence and patient safety is at the heart of everything we do, and this honor reflects that dedication."
