Alimentaria and Hostelco Close Their Most Internationally Successful Edition Yet
Alimentaria and Hostelco's Record Achievement in Barcelona
The Alimentaria and Hostelco trade fair successfully concluded its most globally diverse edition yet on March 27, 2026, at the Fira de Barcelona. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, this prominent event in the food, beverage, hospitality, and restaurant equipment sectors attracted an impressive turnout with over 109,600 professionals in attendance. Among these, about 25% were international visitors hailing from over 120 countries including the United States, various European nations, and several Latin American countries.
This year’s fair featured more than 3,300 exhibitors, out of which 1,200 represented more than 70 countries. The growth in international participation was remarkable, with a 30% increase in international companies compared to the last edition in 2024, as well as a 40% increase in allocated exhibition space for these international exhibitors. Countries such as Poland, recognized as the honored country this year, along with those from North and South America, played a significant role in boosting the event's international representation.
Over the course of the four-day event, a staggering 14,500 business meetings occurred between participants and more than 2,700 invited buyers and importers from around the globe. This provided a concrete platform for networking, collaboration, and business development within the hospitality and restaurant sectors, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Horeca channel—a sector that saw a 40% growth with over 600 companies showcasing their offerings.
Innovation and new product developments were central themes of this year’s showcase, with the event featuring pioneering solutions aimed at promoting healthier options with a reduced environmental impact and the incorporation of artificial intelligence for increasingly personalized nutrition solutions. The fair serves as a vital showcase for trends and forward-thinking concepts that will shape the industry’s future.
In alignment with its social responsibility efforts, Alimentaria + Hostelco partnered with the Fundació Banc dels Aliments. A dedicated group of around one hundred volunteers helped collect over 20,000 kg of food and beverage donations from exhibitors, setting a commendable example of community engagement within the industry.
Anticipation is already building for the next edition of Alimentaria + Hostelco, scheduled for March 20 to 23, 2028, at the same venue in Barcelona, where it is expected to continue fostering innovation and international cooperation in the food and beverage sector.
This year's event exemplified how trade fairs can facilitate global interactions and collaborative ventures that not only benefit businesses but can also contribute positively to societal needs and sustainability.
