The financial insights media, 47Life, provided this data to assist residents in making informed decisions about their cycling habits and the associated insurance costs.

The survey gathered data from 100 participants aged between 20 to 50 years from each prefecture to understand their cycling frequency and the annual cost of the bicycle accident insurance they maintain.
The key focus was on the following questions:
1. How often do you use your bicycle?
2. What is your annual bicycle accident insurance premium, if you have one, like personal liability insurance?

Top Results: Annual Bicycle Insurance Premiums by Prefecture


The results were revealing. The prefecture with the highest average premium was Nagasaki, charging approximately 12,375 yen per year. Okinawa and Kumamoto followed closely with premiums of 11,125 yen and 9,865 yen respectively. The lower end of the spectrum saw Oita with the lowest average premium of 3,018 yen. The survey also aimed to uncover how premiums varied among respondents. The distribution was as follows:
  • - Less than 1,000 yen: 18%
  • - Between 1,000 - 3,000 yen: 21%
  • - Between 3,000 - 5,000 yen: 15%
  • - Between 5,000 - 10,000 yen: 8%
  • - Between 10,000 - 30,000 yen: 6%
  • - Above 30,000 yen: 4%
  • - Included as an add-on with disaster or auto insurance: 28%
