KISTERS Revolutionizes Environmental Sensors with KIPTEC Technology, Enhancing Efficiency and Connectivity
In a significant move forward for environmental monitoring, KISTERS has announced the launch of KIPTEC (KISTERS Intelligence Platform Technology for Embedded Connectivity), marking a paradigm shift in how environmental sensors operate. This innovative embedded technology transforms standard environmental sensors into fully integrated and autonomous devices, eliminating the need for multiple external components such as loggers and modems. The KIPTEC platform promises simplicity and efficiency, addressing the frustrations reported by 93 percent of monitoring professionals regarding complex multi-device installations. By incorporating all necessary functionalities—data processing, logging, telemetry, and power management—directly into the sensor unit, KIPTEC minimizes installation time and maximizes energy efficiency, reducing power consumption by up to 75%.
KIPTEC also boasts instant cloud connectivity in under 30 seconds, dynamic logging, and direct data transmission capabilities. The system has been designed for ease of use: users need only provide power to the sensor for it to operate effectively. This is particularly beneficial for rapid deployments, remote locations, or areas with dense networks where autonomous operational capabilities are critical. KISTERS emphasizes that this new capability aligns directly with market demand for simplified solutions in environmental monitoring, which has been stymied by the complexity of earlier systems.
The KIPTEC-enabled sensors improve on previous models by providing over 12 months of onboard data storage, enabling event-based data transmission, and ensuring protection against data loss with its store-and-forward feature. These sensors are crafted to adapt their power usage according to the surrounding site conditions, thus conserving energy in fluctuating environments. Adding to the platform’s flexibility, it supports LTE-Cat-M1/NB-IoT connectivity, enabling over-the-air updates and easy integration with existing infrastructures via MQTT, HTTPS, and SFTP protocols. Enhanced security measures are a hallmark of this new technology, including end-to-end encryption and compliance with European standards through TLS-certified IoT safeguards.
Anton Felder, Director of KISTERS HydroMet, stated, "The market demanded simplicity and efficiency, and KIPTEC delivers. By integrating connectivity and processing within the sensor, we eliminate traditional barriers to effective monitoring systems." Klaas Schulze Dieckhoff, KISTERS Global Head of RD, added, "These sensors are now referred to as 'Edge' sensors due to the unique advantages provided by KIPTEC. They are optimally suited for swift deployment needs and provide a competitive edge in monitoring dense networks with minimal human intervention."
The KIPTEC technology complements KISTERS’ Classic portfolio, ensuring customers have the flexibility to deploy sensors best suited to their operational needs. The company plans to launch its HyQuant Edge in Q1 2026, which will be the first water radar system equipped with KIPTEC technology. KISTERS is a privately owned organization engaged in developing innovative solutions focusing on environmental data, instrumentation, and IT. By addressing critical global challenges in sectors such as water, weather, and renewable energy, KISTERS positions itself as a leader in the field of environmental monitoring and management.
