Book Launch Success for a Good Cause
On November 6, 2025, in Cassopolis, Michigan, the community rallied together for an inspiring event that combined literature and philanthropy. Author
Gene Walden celebrated the launch of his latest children's adventure book,
Matchup at Adventure Land Golf, while simultaneously raising funds for a local food shelf. In a time when many families across America are grappling with rising costs due to inflation and limited food assistance, Walden's choice to donate the book's proceeds was both timely and crucial.
During the event, which also involved a book signing, roughly
$5,000 was collected for the
Cassopolis Food Shelf. This fantastic initiative reflects the depth of community spirit and solidarity, as all proceeds from the launch, including 100% of Walden’s royalties, were dedicated to feeding the hungry in the area. Moreover, the event was graciously sponsored by Always Best Care-Michiana from South Bend, IN, alongside the Cassopolis Family Clinic, which contributed to covering printing expenses and provided books for distribution to local children.
"Families were already facing rising health costs, inflation, and now, the real possibility of going hungry," remarked Walden during the gathering. "The goal of the book is to make a positive impact—and helping families put food on the table seemed like the perfect place to start."
A Playful Encounter
One of the highlights of the launch was the early meeting of the two cartoon stars modeled after young boys featured within the book's narrative. Remarkably, both children, who are kindergarteners and live 600 miles apart, met for the first time. After a playful interaction on the playground, they joined Walden in signing books for eager fans. This touching moment not only brought joy to attendees but also underscored the book's theme of friendship and collaboration.
