Startup Class Secures 150 Million Yen in Its First Funding Round
Tokyo, Japan – Startup Class, also known as スタクラ, has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing approximately 150 million yen in its first-ever funding round after 14 years. This fundraising was spearheaded by Mizuho Capital with participation from GxPartners, Liveness Capital, and SMBC Venture Capital, focusing on third-party allotment of new shares and bank loans.
The Background Behind the Fundraising
Japan's startup ecosystem has seen rapid growth in recent years, with the Cabinet Office reporting a 30% increase in the number of domestic startups to around 13,000 when compared to five years ago. Despite this positive trend, Japanese startups face numerous challenges in a globally competitive environment. According to the Japan Venture Capital Association, one of the critical barriers is the difficulty in securing talent, cited by 56% of startups. In light of these circumstances, Startup Class has embarked on this funding journey to expand its support for entrepreneurs and startups.
With this infusion of capital, Startup Class aims to enhance its services targeted at resolving various issues faced by entrepreneurs and startups, particularly in talent acquisition. The company aspires to contribute to the creation of 100 successful companies that will illuminate the next century, aligning with its vision of "illuminating the next 100 years, creating 100 companies."
