Arizona State University Partners with Gen.G to Launch Gaming Career Summer Camp in LA

Arizona State University and Gen.G: A New Era in Gaming Education

In a remarkable move to bridge the gap between educational pathways and careers in the gaming industry, Arizona State University (ASU) has announced its official partnership with global esports organization Gen.G. This collaboration is set to kick off with the launch of the Gen.G Gaming Career Summer Camp in Downtown Los Angeles, aimed at inspiring high school and college students to pursue lucrative careers in gaming, media, and technology.

The Summer Camp Experience

Starting this summer, students will have the opportunity to enroll in this immersive program, which is housed within the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at ASU. The camp will offer students from grades 9 through 12 and college attendees the chance to explore various facets of the gaming industry, encompassing areas such as business, esports event management, and cutting-edge technological advancements. With a robust curriculum that includes hands-on projects, guest speakers from the industry, and an ASU digital micro-credential, participants will be equipped with valuable skills and insights to thrive in their future careers.

Unleashing Creativity and Passion

Renée Cheng, Senior Vice Provost and Dean of the Herberger Institute, emphasized the significance of this alliance, stating, "One of the reasons ASU earns our repeated #1 ranking in innovation and #2 in employability is because we identify excellent partners that enrich outcomes for all learners." By focusing on the passions of youth and channeling their interest in gaming into a structured educational format, this partnership aims to help students make informed decisions about their futures.

Research indicates that structured gaming-based learning initiatives can lead to higher engagement levels, better attendance, and enhanced skill development, particularly in areas like problem-solving and teamwork. This partnership harnesses those benefits to provide students with a direct pathway into the gaming and technology sectors.

Gen.G's Commitment to Education

With Gen.G’s long history of educational initiatives, including the establishment of the Gen.G Global Academy in Seoul in 2019, the organization has developed into a leader in fostering talent within the gaming industry. Their academy has become the largest gaming-focused high school in the world, serving as a blueprint for helping aspiring gamers turn their passion into vocational success. According to Arnold Hur, CEO of Gen.G, this partnership allows both organizations to leverage their strengths: "By combining ASU's academic muscle with our global expertise, we have the winning formula to drive the next generation."

In addition to educational programming, Hur himself has joined ASU as a Professor of Practice, allowing him to bring Gen.G's industry insights directly to students and provide mentorship as they prepare for careers in gaming, esports, and related technologies.
