Yesway Welcomes Robert Hampton As New Chief Technology Officer to Drive Innovation
Yesway, one of the fastest-growing convenience store chains in the United States, has announced the appointment of Robert Hampton as their new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This strategic move is set to reinforce the company’s commitment to technological advancement and operational excellence in today's competitive retail environment.
As the newly appointed CTO, Hampton will report directly to Yesway’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tom Trkla. His primary responsibilities will include steering the company’s IT strategy, overseeing various technology initiatives, and ensuring the robust security of Yesway’s digital assets. He brings extensive experience in retail technology and digital transformation, which will be instrumental in enhancing Yesway's operational framework.
With over 20 years of experience in technology leadership roles, Robert Hampton has established himself as a significant player in the retail technology sector. His previous tenure at Jacksons Companies, which involved overseeing technology during substantial company growth, prepared him well for the challenges at Yesway. During his time, he was responsible for the successful integration of more than 120 stores and the launch of the ExtraMile Convenience Stores brand in collaboration with Chevron. These experiences highlight his capability to manage large-scale technological transformations effectively.
"We are excited to welcome Robert to the Yesway family," said Tom Trkla. "His unique blend of hands-on technical skills, industry knowledge, and strategic vision makes him an invaluable asset for Yesway’s growth trajectory. In the fast-evolving retail landscape, having a visionary leader like Robert on board will help us continue to enhance our customer experience and operational efficiency."
Hampton’s first initiatives are expected to focus on reinforcing Yesway's digital infrastructure, which includes everything from enterprise and web technologies to store-level applications. Furthermore, he will lead the company's digital transformation initiatives that cater to retail, fuel services, and back-office operations. Part of his strategic direction will also involve building a robust data infrastructure that aligns with real-time decision-making processes.
In addition to his technological prowess, Hampton has a strong academic background, holding a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science from Texas Tech University and an MBA from Pepperdine University. His commitment to continuous learning and improvement is further evidenced by his ongoing contributions to industry dialogues, particularly as the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for Conexxus, an organization focused on technology standards in the convenience retail sector.
Looking ahead, Hampton expressed enthusiasm about joining Yesway, noting, "Yesway has established an impressive platform complemented by a strong culture and a clear vision for the future. I’m eager to work alongside the leadership team to push our technology capabilities forward, innovate throughout the organization, and ensure we grow efficiently while delivering exceptional service to our customers and team members."
Through this strategic appointment, Yesway aims to leverage technology as a key driver for expansion, ensuring that it meets the demands of a rapidly changing consumer landscape. As the convenience store landscape evolves, Hampton’s leadership will be vital in keeping Yesway at the forefront of innovation and customer satisfaction.
