Astemo Set to Invest in Michigan's Future
In an exciting development for the automotive industry,
Astemo Americas, Inc., a subsidiary of
Astemo, Ltd., has announced plans to invest an impressive
$95 million in the establishment of a new regional headquarters in
Wixom, Michigan. This strategic move responds to the evolving demands of the automotive sector, particularly in areas like autonomous driving and electrification, where software requirements have grown increasingly complex.
Investment Details and Job Creation
This substantial investment is expected to yield approximately
200 new jobs in the Detroit area. Notably, over
150 of these roles will focus specifically on the development of
Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) technologies, which are crucial for the automotive industry's shift towards more automated and electric vehicles.
Astemo's new
26-acre campus will be situated along
I-96 and is designed to accommodate a state-of-the-art testing facility, including several test tracks. The headquarters will also feature
185,000 square feet dedicated to office and lab spaces, catering to engineering, software development, marketing, customer service, and administrative personnel.
Tim Clark, President and CEO of Astemo Americas, expressed optimism about the new facility: "Our Wixom site will provide the necessary space to further develop and showcase our cutting-edge technology, attract additional engineering talent, and enhance collaboration with our customers." This investment marks a significant milestone in Astemo's commitment to innovation in
SDV technologies, facilitating competitive strengths in both the U.S. and Japan.
Timeline for Construction
Construction is slated to commence in
Spring 2026, with an anticipated completion date in
Fall 2027. The announcement of the new headquarters was well-received not only by Astemo but also by local officials.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer noted that Astemo's choice of Michigan over competing locations in
Ohio was a testament to the state's robust infrastructure and skilled workforce.
City Manager Steven Brown of Wixom added, "We are thrilled that Astemo Americas is investing in our community, bringing hundreds of well-paying jobs. Wixom has a rich history as a hub for leading automotive suppliers, and we are eager to collaborate with Astemo on this state-of-the-art facility."
