Arne Jacobsen Exhibition: A Tribute to a Design Maestro
The Arne Jacobsen Exhibition, currently on display at the Murauchi Furniture Access Sagamihara store, offers a unique insight into the life and work of one of Denmark's most celebrated architects and designers. Opened to celebrate the third anniversary of the official Fritz Hansen shop in Sagamihara, this special event highlights the significant contributions of Arne Jacobsen to the world of design, particularly through his partnership with Fritz Hansen, which began in 1872.
Fritz Hansen has represented the pinnacle of modern Scandinavian design for over a century, leaving an indelible mark on furniture, lighting, and accessories. The long-standing history of the brand resonates through its commitment to quality aesthetics and functionality - a fusion that has resulted in timeless pieces loved across generations. The exhibition pays homage to this legacy, showcasing both current collections and vintage items, alongside archival materials, including a recreation of the famous Jacobs Suite 606 at the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.
2025 marks a significant milestone as it will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the iconic Series 7™ chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen. This chair, which evolved from his earlier Ant™ chair, is revered for its organic silhouette and versatility, making it a staple in modern furniture design. The Series 7™ embodies a perfect blend of aesthetics, strength, and flexibility, making it a best-seller even today.
Another highlight of this exhibition is the Ant™ chair, originally designed for a pharmaceutical company’s cafeteria. Exhibited for the first time during Fritz Hansen's 80th-anniversary celebrations, its minimalistic three-legged design is a testament to Jacobsen's innovative approach, featuring a molded plywood shell that is both delicate and artistically appealing.
The exhibition also includes the famed Egg™ chair, a timeless masterpiece of Danish design. Jacobsen meticulously crafted its form through trial and error in his garage, resulting in a chair that symbolizes not only his genius but also the high standards of Scandinavian craftsmanship. The Egg™ chair has become an architectural statement piece loved around the world, representing the elegance and artistry of Jacobsen’s work.
Additionally, visitors will find the Pot™ chair, designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in 1959. This chair has morphed into a modern lounge chair, merging Jacobsen’s original charming silhouette with contemporary comfort and quality, standing as a comfortable piece in any setting.
