Setting Up the Future, Honoring Legacy
On November 10, 2025, MKThink, an innovative architecture and design firm based in San Francisco, proudly announced a significant transition within its leadership. Mark R Miller, FAIA and co-founder, will take on the role of Founder Emeritus Chair, moving away from his positions as Design Principal and Chairperson. This change signifies a new chapter in the organization's journey as it celebrates its 25-year legacy of groundbreaking work in the fields of architecture, analytics, and technology.
Since its inception in 2000, Mark R Miller and fellow co-founder Steve Kelley established MKThink as a vanguard in the industry. They were later joined by Nate Goore, who contributed to the firm’s vision. MKThink developed a unique reputation for integrating design, analytics, and technological innovation, leading to the creation of intelligent spaces tailored for modern use. From its early days of reimagining traditional architecture (referred to as “MK 1.0”), the company has evolved through various phases: advancing architectural relevance through data analytics and innovation (described as “MK 2.0”), culminating in the application of dynamic Spatial Intelligence (termed “MK 3.0”).
A Legacy of Creative Transformation
Mark Miller emphasized the company's ethos when he said,
“MK is best when it is provocative, relentless, and connected in its pursuit of innovation for better places.” This insightful philosophy has shaped MKThink’s approach, which considers the interplay between human factors, natural systems, and constructed environments when devising solutions.
Mark expressed deep appreciation for his leadership journey with his long-time collaborator, Steve Kelley, who stepped away from his role in 2020, allowing for new talent to rise.
“Now is that time for me,” Mark noted, highlighting his belief in the importance of forging pathways for the next generation of leaders.
Looking Ahead: Innovations and Collaborations
Although Miller is transitioning to a new chapter in his career, he will remain involved with MKThink as the Founder Emeritus Chair. His forthcoming endeavors will focus on independent innovation, developing thought leadership initiatives, and pursuing personal artistic pursuits dedicated to fabrication. Moreover, Mark may selectively collaborate with MKThink to ensure quality and continuity on key projects.
Nate Goore continues as CEO of MKThink, now supported by an expanding leadership team that aims to elevate the firm’s evolution further. In acknowledgment of Mark's impressive contributions, Goore commented,
“Mark's vision and contributions have shaped MKThink into a firm that consistently challenges the conventions of architecture.”
