Financial Education Initiative by Traders Securities
Traders Securities, a subsidiary specializing in foreign exchange margin trading, made a significant contribution to financial literacy by conducting an outreach program in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, on March 14, 2026. This initiative was targeted towards middle and high school students, along with their parents, aiming to enhance their understanding of financial and economic concepts.
Event Overview
This outreach session was organized by the Youth Section of the Adachi Ward School Management Department in collaboration with the NPO JUKE, as part of the experiential financial course titled "Experiential Financial Class for Parents and Teens - Career Education x Financial Literacy." While Traders Securities has previously conducted outreach sessions mainly in schools upon request, this event marked a new approach by participating in a municipality-sponsored initiative.
With the theme "Thinking About Money to Survive in an Era of 100-Year Lifespans", approximately 40 participants engaged with practical financial concepts taught by Ichida, a foreign exchange dealer with real-world market experience. He provided insights into adapting to changes in the economic environment while imparting essential financial knowledge.
Class Structure
The lesson was divided into two parts: lectures and group activities.
- - Lectures: The class commenced with an emphasis on the significance of income and expenditure management in a 100-year lifespan, and cautions against investment scams. Participants were introduced to the mechanisms of currency fluctuations, the influence of interest rates, and the role of central banks — foundational concepts critical for deciphering economic trends. The curriculum covered the power of compounding, the basic principles of 'long-term, systematic, and diversified' investing, and raised awareness of corporate funding mechanisms and the NISA system for financial planning.
- - Group Work: True to the joint participation of parents and students, simulated investing exercises were conducted based on global political, economic, and societal trends. Teams comprised of parents and teens discussed potential investment opportunities, offering diverse perspectives and engaging in active debates. The instructor illustrated the latest market data and industry trends, effectively linking theoretical concepts with practical applications.
Participant Feedback
The post-class survey revealed outstanding ratings: 100% for clarity, 97% for understanding, 95% for satisfaction, and 89% for recommendation. Feedback from participants included comments like:
- - Students: "I used to think investing was complicated and timing was crucial, but I've now realized it's a way to improve society and achieve dreams." "The explanations were easy to understand, and I learned how to think through investment decisions during the experiential activities." "I've learned the importance of systematic investing and want to start saving as soon as possible."
- - Parents: "This was a valuable opportunity for parent-child conversations about learning. I realized that investing fundamentally involves supporting businesses." "I learned about the term 'real interest rates' for the first time. I now understand how to assess the nation's economy and financial climate." "The group activities allowed me to hear various opinions, providing informative insights."
Nonetheless, some participants expressed a desire for more advanced discussions on specific details about the NISA system and practical steps to begin investing, indicating a need for more hands-on information.
Outcomes and Importance of the Course
Through this joint learning format for parents and teens, Traders Securities successfully conveyed the principles of financial literacy. With over 95% accuracy in answering true or false questions on investment principles, the engaged response from participants highlighted their keen interest in the subject matter. Notably, students expressed a newfound understanding that investing can enhance societal welfare and realize dreams, while parents acknowledged the essential purpose of supporting businesses through investment.
However, due to time limitations, some practical content was not adequately covered, and such feedback is valuable for improving future sessions. The ability to provide financial education beyond school confines represents a substantial learning experience for our organization.
Our ongoing collaboration with local communities aims to empower future generations with robust financial knowledge to build prosperous futures.
