AEON's Engaging 2025 Contest

AEON, a leading English conversation school based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has initiated an exciting contest titled 'Your English Word for 2025'. This initiative will run from October 14 to November 30, 2025, and it is open to students attending AEON and AEON Kids programs. The aim is to gather various episodes and highlight a significant English word that embodies the experiences of participants over the year.

Following the extraordinary participation in 2024, where the contest garnered 477 submissions, AEON decided to host this event for a second time. This heartfelt project encourages students to reflect on their experiences and emotions over the year while exploring a variety of English words, ultimately making learning a more enjoyable experience.

In the inaugural contest held last year, the Grand Prize in the general category (for high school students and above) was awarded to the word flourish, symbolizing growth and prosperity. In the kids category, the word colorful won the top spot, representing vibrancy and life. Additionally, the Runner-Up in the general category was awarded to the word interaction, and squirrel was recognized in the kids category for its charm and relatability.

Interestingly, the most frequently submitted word across both categories was challenge, signifying participants' aspirations and the hurdles they aimed to overcome. Other popular words included try, restart & growth, effort & try, and phrases like positive changes & moving forward. These selections reflect an overarching theme of resilience, determination, and adaptation in the face of change.

AEON is not only interested in gathering these meaningful words but also aims to reward creativity and effort. For this year's contest, participants in each category will have the opportunity to win prizes: the Grand Prize will be a 2,000 yen coffee gift card, while the Runner-Up will receive a 1,000 yen gift card. Moreover, in a gesture to appreciate all entrants, 50 additional participants will be selected through a lottery to win 500 yen coffee gift cards.

As anticipation builds for this year's meaningful word contributions, AEON looks forward to seeing the creativity and reflections from students, furthering their mission of breaking down language barriers and empowering individuals to thrive globally. The announcement of the contest winners is expected to take place in the second week of December 2025, providing a perfect conclusion to the year and a keen interest in what words will define the collective experience of students.
