Celebrating Eight Years of Reliable LNG Supply to The Bahamas by Sawgrass LNG & Power

A Milestone in Energy Cooperation: Sawgrass LNG & Power

This December marks a celebratory moment for Sawgrass LNG & Power as they commemorate eight successful years of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to The Commonwealth of The Bahamas. The first shipment of LNG took place on December 13, 2017, establishing a notable partnership that has significantly contributed to the energy landscape of the Caribbean.

Sawgrass LNG & Power has completed thousands of deliveries since the partnership began, servicing industrial users and power generators across multiple islands of the Bahamas. This commitment to reliable LNG supply is facilitated through their subsidiary, American LNG Marketing LLC, which is notable for being the only company to deliver LNG from the U.S. to the Bahamas.

In 2016, American LNG Marketing achieved a historic milestone, being the first company to export LNG from the continental United States to a non-Free Trade Agreement country, beginning this significant journey with deliveries to Barbados. One year later, they proudly expanded operations by initiating the first LNG shipment to The Bahamas—propelling U.S. energy engagement into new avenues within the region.

Daniel McLaughlin, President and Chief Commercial Officer of Sawgrass LNG & Power, expressed pride in the longstanding relationship with the Bahamian Government and customers across The Bahamas. “This collaboration reflects our mutual dedication to energy reliability, the use of cleaner fuels, and the pursuit of regional resilience,” he stated. “It showcases the essential role that U.S. natural gas plays in supporting our Caribbean neighbors.”

Over the years, Sawgrass has enabled numerous industrial and commercial stakeholders to transition away from more traditional liquid fuels. This shift not only reduces emissions but also enhances efficiency and strengthens energy security in the Bahama's incredibly logistically complex environment. According to McLaughlin, this partnership stands as a model for cooperation aimed at fostering clean, reliable, and modern energy landscapes.

As countries across the Caribbean region increasingly focus on cleaner power generation and more secure energy supply chains, Sawgrass is committed to advancing these goals through American-produced LNG. McLaughlin emphasized the importance of this evolving relationship with The Bahamas as the government takes strides toward additional LNG-fueled power generation. “We're looking forward to a stronger partnership, aimed at building a more resilient, lower-emission energy future,” he added.

Sawgrass LNG & Power is dedicated to enhancing modern energy infrastructure in the Caribbean and continues its mission of supplying impeccable service through clean and dependable U.S. natural gas to meet the evolving needs of the region.
