Sharjah Government Launches 13th Communication Award with a Focus on AI

Sharjah Government Launches the 13th Communication Award

The Sharjah Government has officially opened the global call for submissions for the 13th edition of the Government Communication Award. This year's initiative places a significant focus on the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in communication.

Organizations and individuals interested in participating have until September 22, 2026, to submit their applications for more than 35 categories of awards. These include awards for governmental and international organizations, the private sector, individual prizes, and intelligent communication contests, among others.

The expansion of the award follows an overwhelming international response in 2025, where over 2,600 applications were received from 37 different countries. From this impressive pool, more than 600 applicants advanced to the next stage of evaluation, and 170 projects made it to the final judging phase.

Among the standout submissions from previous editions were initiatives such as Tuvalu's ambitious plan to become the world's first digital nation focused on addressing climate change, along with programs supporting youth entrepreneurship in Nigeria. Such high-caliber entries highlight the importance of innovative and effective communication methods in today's global landscape.

The 13th edition, driven by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, introduces specific emphasis on AI through the new category called “Best Use of AI in Governmental and Institutional Communication.” This category aims to assess how AI technologies have been integrated into various stages of communication, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes. The jury will specifically look into enhancements brought by AI, such as improved content quality, audience understanding, and overall communication efficiency.

In addition to the newly introduced AI category, there is now a subcategory focused on “Best Campaigns for Promoting Emirati Identity.” This addition not only enhances the competitive spirit of the awards but also underlines the significance of cultural identity in governmental communications.

As the deadline for the 13th edition approaches, the Media Bureau of Sharjah is keen to see initiatives that not only demonstrate effective communication strategies but also showcase the tangible impact and sustainability of their efforts. The focus on measurable outcomes aims to encourage participants to think critically about the changes brought about by their projects and how they benefit the community.

The awards serve as a platform for recognizing excellence in government communication strategies and the innovative use of modern technologies, particularly AI. Participants are encouraged to share their unique projects and insights that align with the overarching goal of enhancing communication within and beyond their immediate environments.
