CoreWeave Launches Advanced AI Data Centers in the UK for Enhanced Computing Power

CoreWeave Powers Up AI in the UK

CoreWeave, known as the AI Hyperscaler™, is revolutionizing the AI computing landscape with the recent launch of two operational data centers in the United Kingdom, specifically located in Crawley and London Docklands. These centers will support some of the most extensive deployments of the NVIDIA AI platform in Europe, powered by cutting-edge NVIDIA H200 GPUs, and interconnected through advanced NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking.

This ambitious endeavor marks CoreWeave’s first operational launch in the UK, building on its previous £1 billion investment announced last year. In addition, the company unveiled London as its European headquarters in 2024, with further plans to inject £750 million into the UK during the International Investment Summit held last October.

The first data center featuring NVIDIA H200 GPUs became operational in October 2024 at the Crawley site, through a partnership with Digital Realty. Following closely, the second data center, located in London Docklands, went live in December 2024 in collaboration with Global Switch. Both campuses are aligned with CoreWeave’s commitment to sustainable energy, using 100% renewable sources to power their operations.

In August 2024, CoreWeave made headlines as the first cloud provider to deliver NVIDIA H200 GPUs to customers, affirming its position as an industry leader in AI infrastructure. The launch of these UK data centers aims to provide a specialized AI cloud platform, enabling customers to explore new frontiers in AI technology.

CoreWeave's infrastructure is tailor-made for AI workloads, fundamentally different from traditional cloud services that cater primarily to web-scale applications and are often bogged down by outdated technological frameworks. The company has been expanding rapidly, and by the end of 2024, it plans to have opened 28 data centers worldwide, with an additional 10 slated for 2025.

The UK is currently experiencing a surge in interest in AI innovations, and this investment has been heralded as a significant step forward for the sector. Rachel Reeves, Chancellor of the Exchequer, emphasized that this investment represents a strong vote of confidence in the UK's digital technology capabilities, aligning perfectly with governmental efforts to enhance economic growth and leverage AI for efficiency.

Mike Mattacola, CoreWeave's Chief Business Officer, shared his excitement regarding the launch in the UK, recognizing it as a pivotal milestone that complements the investment strategy the company proposed last year. He highlighted the strategic importance of the UK market, especially with the company's European headquarters established in London.

In response to the growing demand for reliable AI infrastructure in Europe, Séamus Dunne, Managing Director at Digital Realty, lauded the partnership with CoreWeave, asserting that their collaboration leads to unprecedented advancements in AI capabilities for enterprises. Similarly, Ashley Muldoon, CEO of Global Switch, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, signaling a commitment to meeting increasing demands from UK customers for resilient and energy-efficient solutions.

As CoreWeave propels its vision of transforming the AI landscape, its rapid expansion across the UK reinforces its position as a leader in providing optimized cloud solutions dedicated to AI applications. With their latest developments, CoreWeave is undeniably set to shape the future of artificial intelligence in the region and beyond.
