Linglong Tire Showcases Innovative Sustainable Tire Concept at WBCSD Annual Meeting
From April 27-28, 2026, Montreux, Switzerland played host to the annual gathering of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), attracting nearly 600 leaders from various industries to discuss crucial sustainability topics, including reduction of emissions by 2030 and circular economies. A standout moment during this event was a presentation delivered by Zhou Lingkun, the CEO of Linglong Tire.
Linglong Tire, a prominent player in the tire manufacturing sector, outlined its commitment to sustainable practices in alignment with global carbon neutrality goals. Zhou emphasized that with the urgent need for both economic and environmental balance, sustainable development has become an imperative for all businesses. Linglong has embedded ecological principles into its operational strategy, aiming to construct an eco-friendly ecosystem across its entire supply chain. The company's ambitious objectives include achieving a 52.07% reduction in carbon emissions by 2035 and aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050.
During the meeting, Linglong Tire was officially presented with its membership certificate for the WBCSD, marking a significant milestone. Being the first tire manufacturer from mainland China to join the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR), Linglong is committed to supporting certified FSC natural rubber projects. This initiative not only aids rubber farmers but also contributes to forest conservation and protects the rights of workers, indigenous peoples, and local communities.
In terms of resource recycling, Linglong promotes the utilization of liquid rubber waste and carbon black through pyrolysis, efficiently processing used tires while ensuring a closed-loop resource cycle. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly Linglong's introduction of a new tire composed of 85% sustainable materials. This innovative tire features over 60% renewable biological materials and approximately 25% recycled content, positioning it as a leader within the Chinese tire industry and among global peers.
Leveraging cutting-edge materials like rice husk silica and biobased rubber, this tire significantly reduces its carbon footprint right from its infancy. Additionally, it retains high performance standards, meeting the stringent requirements of European tire labeling, particularly in rolling resistance and wet braking performance. Zhou remarked that the tire featuring 85% sustainable materials is merely a stepping stone. Linglong's long-term vision is to develop a tire made from 100% sustainable materials by 2040.
Joining the WBCSD signifies international recognition of Linglong's relentless efforts towards sustainable development, and the company is eager to engage deeply in global discussions to collaborate on fostering a greener future for mobility. As we progress into an era where environmental responsibility takes precedence, initiatives like these can have immense implications for the tire industry and beyond. By prioritizing sustainability, Linglong Tire aims not just to reshape its product offerings but to inspire an entire sector towards a more environmentally conscious approach.
As the discussions at the WBCSD annual meeting concluded, the focus on innovative, sustainable solutions became clearer than ever. The collective ambition among attendees to drive significant change illustrates a promising trajectory towards achieving global sustainability goals, showcasing corporate responsibility at the forefront of industry advancements.
Linglong's forward-thinking approach is an essential element of a larger conversation surrounding sustainability, reminding us that the drive towards reducing our carbon footprint begins with meaningful investments in innovative technologies and materials that propel the industry forward while safeguarding our planet for future generations.
