Oklahoma City Students to Shine in School Choice Showcase
In just two weeks, hundreds of students are set to gather at Dove Science Academy's South Middle/High School in Oklahoma City, showcasing their enthusiasm for the various educational options available in the state. This exciting event is part of National School Choice Week, which takes place from January 25 to 31, and aims to celebrate and raise awareness about the multitude of K-12 school choices families can make.
The showcase will run from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM on January 29 and is open to the public, providing an opportunity for families, educators, and community members to explore the diverse educational landscape in Oklahoma. Attendees will hear inspiring personal stories from students and parents about how school choice has positively impacted their lives and futures.
Over the past decade, Oklahoma has made significant strides in expanding educational options for K-12 students. From public and charter schools to magnet schools, private institutions, online education, homeschooling, and non-traditional learning environments, the variety of choices has fostered an inclusive educational ecosystem.
Brent Bushey, CEO of Fuel OKC, the organization hosting the event in collaboration with the National School Choice Awareness Foundation, emphasized the importance of this initiative: "This event gives families an opportunity to explore their school options and make confident, informed decisions about their child's education. Every child deserves to attend the school that's the best fit for them — not just the one in their zip code. When families have more options, students have more opportunities to thrive."
National School Choice Week is celebrated nationwide with a staggering 28,000 events occurring across the United States. Its mission is to empower parents by providing them the necessary information to select the learning environment that aligns with their child's unique needs, ensuring they feel confident navigating the choices available to them.
The showcase at Dove Science Academy is a pivotal moment in highlighting Oklahoma's commitment to educational choice, where the community can come together to learn about the various opportunities available. Interested families and community members are encouraged to attend this free event, allowing them to engage with educators, discover new schools, and gain insight into the educational paths available for their children.
