ENEOS and GEF1: Pioneering Synthetic Fuels Collaboration



In a significant strategic partnership, ENEOS Corporation and German eFuel One GmbH (GEF1) have teamed up to promote synthetic fuel initiatives in Japan. This collaboration aims to assist in the introduction of synthetic fuels in the Japanese market while building an international value chain for low-carbon fuels. The partnership builds upon the existing relationship between ENEOS and eFuel GmbH, enhancing their collaboration in the industrial and commercial sectors, and further solidifying the commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

GEF1 plans to develop large-scale e-gasoline production facilities in Germany, utilizing green hydrogen and recovered CO₂. ENEOS has signed a supply agreement for e-gasoline as part of this collaboration, marking its first import of synthetic fuels into Japan. This deal not only signifies a crucial step in increasing the adoption of synthetic fuels in Japan but also represents GEF1's first export endeavor outside Europe, enhancing energy cooperation between Germany and Japan.

Importance of Synthetic Fuels


Synthetic fuels are produced using renewable electricity to create green hydrogen, along with synthesis gas derived from biomass gasification or captured CO₂. These fuels, when manufactured to meet strict sustainability standards and regulatory criteria, exhibit high compatibility with existing infrastructure, engines, and distribution systems. The synthetic fuels produced will originate from Germany's large-scale e-gasoline facility, combining green hydrogen with captured CO₂.
