In an audacious move against traditional retail norms, Ginza Eikokuya, a prestigious tailor specializing in bespoke suits since 1940, is set to unveil its new flagship store in the heart of Ginza. This new store, set to open on May 13, 2026, consolidates three locations into one, emphasizing quality service over quantity of locations.

The Shift in Business Strategy


Ginza Eikokuya, operated by Eikokuya Co., Ltd and led by President Eiki Kobayashi, has chosen to reduce its number of stores from 11 to 2 while simultaneously enhancing its revenue. In a market grappling with declining populations and mature demand, many companies feel constrained by the need to continually expand sales. However, Eikokuya has bucked this trend by adopting a strategy that focuses on sustainable growth.

This transformation is part of what they refer to as “reverse management,” a philosophy that will be fully revealed with the opening of the Tokyo Ginza store. This model proposes that cutting back can lead to stronger, more efficient operations. Their sales rose from 14.2 billion yen in 2019 with 11 stores, to a projected 14.6 billion yen in 2025 with only four stores.

They have introduced dedicated “1-on-1 rooms” in the new flagship store where continuous dialogue between team members can thrive. By selecting not to overproduce, they enhance customer loyalty while reinforcing their quality-driven business model. The New Flagship Store


The Tokyo Ginza store is more than just a new location; it's designed to manifest Eikokuya’s strategic philosophy through its spatial layout. With an investment of 2.5 billion yen, the store spans across two floors and consolidates three previously distributed locations. The inviting atmosphere features product samples and an extensive selection of fabrics from around the world, enabling customers to visualize their customizations effectively.

Upon entering the fifth floor, customers are greeted by a tranquil, upscale environment designed to enhance the ordering experience. It includes a “free bespoke experience” to allow newcomers to explore the luxury of full customization safely.

On the sixth floor, a clear distinction between customer service and backend operations supports efficient workflows. The highlight is the newly established “1-on-1 rooms” facilitating ongoing dialogue between staff members, nurturing Eikokuya's culture of continuous improvement. By modernizing areas that were previously ineffective and enhancing the workspace for staff, the store aims to elevate the quality of service provided.

With its grand opening on May 13, 2026, the Tokyo Ginza store will replace the Ginza 3-chome shop, Okura Tokyo shop, and the Ginza 1-chome Brick Street shop, centralizing all operations under one roof.
