Exploring the Meaning of Home in Art: JCAT and Kyuryudo Collaboration Exhibition

Discovering 'Home': An Insightful Art Exhibition

From April 25 to April 29, 2025, Galerie La Ruche in Azabu-Juban, Tokyo, will host a remarkable exhibition titled "Home: A Place to Return to". This collaborative initiative features Japanese Contemporary Artists Team (JCAT) and Kyuryudo, a prestigious publisher in the world of fine arts that has been supporting Japanese art for over a century. This exhibition delves deep into the notion of 'home' and invites viewers to ponder what it truly means to return to a place of comfort and safety.

JCAT has made a name for itself internationally by working closely with Japanese artists and integrating art into daily life. Their mission revolves around restoring people and the earth to their rightful states through art. At the heart of this exhibition lies the universal question of where we truly belong. Whether it’s a child in need of comfort from a parent or an elderly person whispering their longing for home, the concept transcends the physical structure of a house. It unveils the understanding that a materialistic view of 'home' might not encompass our emotional and spiritual yearnings.

Featured Artists

The exhibition will showcase the works of five notable artists from JCAT who explore their inner worlds through their art. Joining them will be guest artist SHOGEN, renowned for his unique style and approach to creating art. SHOGEN ventured alone to Tanzania, living among villagers while continuing to create his vibrant paintings that reflect a theme of ‘clumsy yet comfortable worlds’.

The artists also include:
  • - Fujian, a rising star who brings new perspectives to the art scene.
  • - Hiromi Kawano, known for her intricate connections to nature.
  • - You., who infuses art with philosophy, contributing to the series titled "cell".
  • - Takashi Hattori, whose work titled Growth Rings metaphorically represents growth in various dimensions.
