Heifer International's 2025 Annual Report: Enhancing Farmer Leadership to Foster Sustainable Food Systems
Heifer International's 2025 Annual Report: A Year of Transformation
Heifer International has unveiled its digital 2025 Annual Report, outlining notable strides in advancing sustainable food systems through farmer leadership. This pivotal year marks an expansion of the organization's commitment to empowering smallholder farmers, enhancing their resilience amid global uncertainties, and opening pathways for rural prosperity.
Across 19 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, Heifer has collaborated with 1.4 million smallholder farming households. This substantial outreach builds upon more than 80 years of dedication that has positively impacted nearly 60 million households since its inception in 1944. The cooperative efforts of farmer organizations and enterprises supported by Heifer led to total sales amounting to $51 million, bolstering local economies and enabling reinvestment in smallholder livelihoods; these initiatives notably prioritize the empowerment of women farmers.
Surita Sandosham, the President and CEO of Heifer International, emphasized that the pressing challenges facing smallholder farmers—including escalating climate crises and growing economic turbulence—make their leadership crucial. She stated, "Listening to farmers and supporting their leadership is not optional — it is essential. Our 2025 experience shows that when farmers have the tools, partnerships, and market access they need, they can drive lasting change for their families and communities."
