Upcoming 33rd World Congress of the ISHRS in Berlin
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) is set to organize its much-anticipated 33rd World Congress from October 23 to 25, 2025, in Berlin, Germany. This event promises to be a hub for innovative advancements in surgical and nonsurgical hair loss treatments, complete with a live surgery broadcast on October 26.
During the three-day congress, some of the world’s most esteemed hair restoration experts will present their latest research aimed at stimulating and maintaining hair growth for millions suffering from hair loss. Recent statistics from ISHRS indicate a significant 20% rise in the average number of patients facing hair loss per ISHRS member since 2021. Alarmingly, first-time hair restoration surgery patients are younger than before, with an impressive 95% seeking treatment between the ages of 20 and 35.
This growing demand for hair loss treatment knowledge is expected to attract over 800 physicians and surgical assistants from across the globe to the congress. A new highlight of this year's program is the introduction of workshops that will replace traditional focus sessions. These interactive workshops will allow speakers to delve deeper into their topics using videos, presentations, and engaging audience participation, thereby enhancing participants' skills on chosen subjects.
Dr. Sam Lam, FISHRS, the program chair, noted, "We received a record number of abstracts for this event, contributing to an exceptional scientific program dedicated to advancing surgical and nonsurgical education in hair restoration."
In an unprecedented move, Dr. Ricardo Mejia, President of ISHRS, announced that for the first time, the congress will feature real-time translation into over 60 languages using artificial intelligence (AI). This change highlights the society's commitment to ensuring that all international members have equal educational opportunities.
The program will include presentations from renowned speakers such as:
- - Dr. Leslie Castelo-Soccio, MD, PhD, USA - "The Microbiome in Hair Restoration"
- - Dr. David Saceda, MD, PhD, Spain - "Treatment of Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia"
- - Dr. Ulrike Blume-Peytavi, MD, PhD, Germany - "New Developments on Topical Finasteride"
- - Dr. Angela Hermosa, MD, Spain - "Mesotherapy of the Scalp in Hair Restoration"
- - Dr. Stefanie Heilmann-Heimbach, PhD, Germany - "Inheritance Patterns of Androgenetic Alopecia"
Alongside the new workshops, sessions covering a wide range of topics, including advances in stem cell therapy for hair restoration and the latest surgical techniques, will be available for both seasoned practitioners and newcomers alike. Attendees are encouraged to engage actively and participate in discussions to make the learning experience more effective.
Some of the current topics expected to be presented at the ISHRS World Congress include:
- - Stem cells prolonging the anagen phase and enhancing hair follicle growth
- - Creating a natural hairline using long-pulsed NdYAG laser
- - Sublingual minoxidil increases fiber diameter in male androgenetic alopecia
- - Nutrition and Hair Loss
- - Afro-hair restoration through Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
- - Botulinum Toxin management in Androgenetic Alopecia before FUE
- - A double-blinded, prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study that statistically shows significant reduction in telogen hair loss using a new hair care spray
- - Cooling the scalp at sub-zero temperatures shows statistically significant hair growth recovery in AGA patients - Pilot study
- - AI in Hair Restoration Surgery practice: Real applications for enhanced efficiency, engagement, and education.
Dr. Mejia remarked, “Given the record high demand for hair loss treatments among men and women, ISHRS is poised to address this need through top-tier educational offerings, not just at our World Congress but year-round through hands-on workshops and comprehensive online education.”
With its dedication to advancing patient care through improved treatment outcomes, it’s evident that ISHRS remains at the forefront of hair restoration education.
