Cassaundra Howell: A New Era for Public Health Solutions in New York City
Public Health Solutions (PHS) is heralding a new chapter with the appointment of Cassaundra Howell as its President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026. With this historical selection, Howell becomes the first Black woman to take the reins of the 67-year-old nonprofit organization, a key player in advancing health equity and community well-being in New York City. Howell succeeds Lisa David, the outgoing President and CEO, continuing the Foundations' commitment to improving health services for underserved populations.
A Profile in Public Health Leadership
Howell, a Bronx native, brings over 22 years of valuable experience in public health and organizational leadership. Prior to her new position, she served as Chief Operating Officer at PHS, where she proved her mettle in critical operational functions such as Human Resources, Information Technology, and Change Management. Her tenure saw the introduction of lean process improvements and modernization of internal systems that greatly enhanced the organization's capacity to serve New Yorkers.
With her deep knowledge of health management and financial strategies, Howell played a pivotal role in enhancing PHS's financial stability. She has a proven track record of implementing initiatives that optimize efficiency and promote financial health within organizations, making her well-prepared for her new position.
