On June 25, 2025, the
Automobile Recycling Promotion Center, headquartered in
Minato, Tokyo, was honored with the prestigious
Minister of the Environment Award for Disaster Response Support Activities. The award ceremony took place at the Central Government Building located in
Chiyoda, Tokyo.
This foundation plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective processing of vehicles damaged by large-scale natural disasters. When disasters occur, they often result in a sudden influx of vehicles requiring recycling in accordance with the
Automobile Recycling Act. In these situations, the foundation provides municipalities with essential guidelines and knowledge for the removal and processing of disaster-affected vehicles, and actively promotes the completion of vehicle processing that ultimately supports recovery efforts.
A notable instance of this effort was seen during the
Noto Peninsula Earthquake, where the center collaborated with the
Ministry of the Environment,
Wajima City, and the
Japan Automobile Recycling Organization to effectively remove 81 vehicles that were destroyed in a significant fire incident in the
Wajima Morning Market Area. The combined efforts not only facilitated the efficient removal of burnt vehicles but also showcased the strong collaboration between public entities and the foundation in times of need.
The foundation is committed to continuing its work in supporting recovery efforts in the aftermath of large-scale disasters. Their dedication to ensuring a sustainable society and aiding affected communities is unwavering. With plans to enhance their engagement in disaster response activities, they are preparing to initiate new projects that will not only respond to immediate needs but also contribute to long-term recovery and resilience.

It highlights how organizations can effectively work together to meet the needs of communities affected by natural disasters. Through this award, the Automobile Recycling Promotion Center receives validation of its efforts and an encouragement to further broaden its impact.
In the future, the foundation aims to develop additional strategies to prepare for and respond to disasters, ensuring that their framework is adaptable and effective.
