ChangAn Automobile Launches Its First International Electric Vehicle Factory in Thailand
ChangAn Automobile, a leader in low-emission transportation technology, has made a significant stride in its global expansion with the inauguration of its first international factory for New Energy Vehicles (NEV) in Rayong, Thailand. This factory represents a shift from merely exporting products to building complete industrial ecosystems.
The establishment of the Rayong facility is part of ChangAn’s ambitious "Vast Ocean Plan" aimed at enhancing its presence across five key international markets, including Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, and Europe and Eurasia. The company intends to match its international market reach to that of its domestic operations in China, developing a global automotive brand known for its intelligent and sustainable manufacturing practices.
The Rayong factory spans approximately 245 rai (about 392,000 square meters) and features five main production workshops, which include welding, painting, general assembly, engine and battery assembly, and external quality control. This facility is designed to be eco-friendly and energy-efficient, incorporating advanced production systems and technologies in its operations.
One of the key advantages of the Rayong factory is its innovative manufacturing processes, which utilize natural daylight, photovoltaic systems, and water recycling technologies. These improvements are expected to reduce energy consumption per vehicle by approximately 20%. The adoption of automated systems, adaptive transport networks, and advanced assembly and testing technologies contribute to enhancing production efficiency and meeting varied market demands. By 2027, the production capacity of the Rayong facility is projected to double, allowing for an annual output of 200,000 vehicles under brands like CHANG-AN, DEEPAL, and AVATR.
The company's "Vast Ocean Plan" reflects the shifting global trends within the automotive industry. As ChangAn expands its reach beyond traditional markets, it has successfully entered various regions, including Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Germany. The company launched multiple models, including the DEEPAL S07, E07, and AVATR 11, in Thailand, achieving remarkable sales exceeding 14,000 units and establishing itself as one of the top players in the Thai electric vehicle market.
The factory in Rayong symbolizes ChangAn's 41 years of automotive manufacturing experience. Merging this legacy with local operations has enabled the establishment of a global system that cultivates skilled international talent. This initiative supports the implementation of global production standards and serves as a model of best practices for international operations. It emphasizes Lean Manufacturing principles, showcasing leadership, productivity, and efficiency in the company's core processes.
Utilizing the CAPDS system, the Rayong facility supports engineering development and technical assistance across Southeast Asia. ChangAn's emphasis on new energy technologies, smart systems, adaptive design, and regional product innovations signifies its intention to further solidify its global footprint.
As the first overseas facility set up with ChangAn’s production management standards, the Rayong factory enables rapid product market introductions. It establishes a resilient, dual-circulation supply chain that integrates both China and Thailand, showcasing a leap from simply exporting vehicles to creating a local manufacturing ecosystem.
Zhu Huarong, the president of ChangAn Automobile, expressed the significance of this milestone: "This is a monumental moment for ChangAn—a substantial shift from exporting cars to building a local ecosystem. Despite the considerable challenges presented by anti-globalization trends, we remain committed to executing the 'Vast Ocean' plan. We pledge to engage more thoroughly in Thailand's economic and social development while contributing to the advancement of the global automotive industry."
Finally, this factory not only continues ChangAn's legacy but also positions it optimally within the rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape, reaffirming its dedication to innovation and sustainable practices across its global operations.
