EliTe Solar Starts 5 GW Solar Manufacturing Center in Egypt

On December 16, 2024, a significant step towards renewable energy progression was taken with EliTe Solar's inauguration of its solar manufacturing facility in Egypt's Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone. This center, aiming for a staggering 5 GW capacity, will span 78,000 square meters and is projected to begin production by September 2025, dividing its capabilities into 2 GW for solar cells and 3 GW for solar modules.

The ceremony, attended by notable dignitaries such as Waleid Gamal Eldien, President of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and representatives from both the Chinese Embassy and China-Africa TEDA Investment Co., Ltd., signified a collaborative effort towards enhancing the regional solar energy landscape. Waleid Gamal Eldien emphasized the project's role in leveraging advanced solar manufacturing technologies that would revolutionize Egypt's production standards.

This ambitious project not only brings cutting-edge energy manufacturing technologies to Egypt but also revitalizes local solar supply chains, enhancing the country’s export capabilities and solidifying its position in the global solar market. The facility is expected to generate approximately 500 million kWh annually, equivalent to offsetting the carbon emissions of planting 84 million trees and saving around 307 million tons of coal.

Li Daixin, the president of China-Africa TEDA Investment Co., Ltd., highlighted that this initiative would place Egypt at the forefront of solar manufacturing in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), strengthening local supply chains and supporting global renewable energy growth.

Against the backdrop of recent energy shortages and power outages in Egypt, the urgency of diversifying the energy architecture cannot be overstated. This project represents a sustainable solution to the growing electricity demand and energy independence needs in the region.
