PowerX Corporation, led by CEO Masahiro Ito and based in Tamano, Okayama, has today unveiled its latest innovation - the Mega Power 4000 series. This high-capacity energy storage system is designed to meet the escalating demands of large-scale battery storage facilities in response to the growing competitiveness in the global market. Featuring models with storage capacities of 4.6 MWh and 4.2 MWh, the series is set for mass production starting in May 2027.
As the world accelerates the integration of renewable energy, the trend towards larger-scale energy storage facilities is equally evident. In Japan, for instance, the average bid size for battery projects in recent long-term decarbonization power auctions has increased significantly, jumping from 36 MW in 2023 to a projected 66 MW by 2025. The proportion of projects exceeding 75 MW has also grown from 3% to an impressive 37%. Such large-scale undertakings require substantial installations of energy storage systems, necessitating the demand for increased capacity per container to manage project costs effectively.
To address these customer needs, the Mega Power 4000 series has been meticulously engineered. It features a densified packaging of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in a 20-foot container, which offers an effective blend of capacity and compactness. PowerX positions this series as a global strategic model, aimed not only at the domestic market but also at international markets such as Australia and Southeast Asia, with proposals already underway for local and overseas clients.
Core Solution: Grid Connector for BESS
Alongside the Mega Power 4000 series, PowerX introduced the Grid Connector for BESS, which integrates power conditioners, transformers, and high-voltage distribution boards into a cohesive system. This comprehensive approach aims to optimize the construction and commissioning costs by standardizing the entire energy storage system along with the grid connection equipment. Through these initiatives, PowerX aims to enhance the differentiation and competitiveness of its energy storage solutions.

The Mega Power 4000 series achieves an unprecedented energy storage capacity per installation area. With a maximum storage capacity of 4,680 kWh per unit, this represents a staggering increase of approximately 1.7 times compared to previous models. Consequently, projects can realize a reduction in the number of required storage containers by around 40%, thereby compressing associated construction costs and timelines due to the proportionality of foundational and wiring adjustments.

Dual-Stack Installation
For the first time in PowerX's product line, the Mega Power 4000 series has been designed to accommodate dual-stack installations. This advancement enables a potential 9,360 kWh capacity on a single installation area of a 20-foot container, achieving about 3.4 times the energy storage capacity compared to prior models, effectively maximizing land utilization.

The Mega Power 4000 series utilizes a universal container design that accommodates multiple battery cell suppliers from different manufacturers and nations. This flexibility enhances supply stability and allows for cost reductions while adapting to fluctuations in procurement environments.

Designed to comply with international standards (ISO), the Mega Power 4000 series uses a standard-sized 20-foot container facilitating both domestic and international transport while maintaining the high capacity. To streamline logistics, the series keeps delivery weight under 32 tons for local delivery through existing infrastructure. Moreover, it complies with hazardous material transport regulations, enabling shipping in the intact container configuration.

Resilience and Security
Recognizing Japan's susceptibility to natural disasters, the Mega Power 4000 series incorporates advanced safety features. An Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) detects tremors, allowing for controlled safety measures such as contactor release in response to earthquake activity. The design further considers wind resistance against typhoons through appropriate anchoring methodologies. The system also offers optional features for noise reduction, employing active noise cancellation techniques. Additionally, cybersecurity is a priority, with plans for compliance with the JC-STAR security standards for IoT devices.
