Sungrow Unveils Innovative CI Energy Solutions at Johannesburg Summit

Revolutionizing the C&I ESS Landscape: Sungrow's Showcase in South Africa

On November 18th, 2025, Sungrow, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, presented its latest innovations in low and medium-voltage energy storage systems (ESS) targeted at the commercial and industrial (C&I) market during the CI Summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

With participation from over 200 partners and industry experts, the event spotlighted the urgent demand for viable energy solutions in a country predominantly reliant on coal, which accounts for 85% of its power generation. Frequent load shedding in the region has hindered business operations and economic growth, necessitating a shift towards solar power integrated with ESS.

Addressing South Africa's Energy Needs

Sungrow's introduction of its CI ESS solutions aims to alleviate these energy challenges while supporting the transition to greener alternatives. By adopting sustainable technologies, businesses can reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, contributing to lower carbon emissions and a more sustainable future.

Among the innovations presented, Sungrow highlighted key solutions:

1. AC Coupled Solution:
The AC coupling solution is tailor-made for customers who already have photovoltaic (PV) inverters installed. This system offers two capacity options: a 257 kWh capacity for a 2-hour system, or a 514 kWh capacity for a 4-hour system in a cabinet design. The renowned AC Block design ensures a round-trip efficiency (RTE) of approximately 90%, while its capability to handle 100% single-phase unbalanced load eliminates the need for an isolation transformer, thus cutting down costs. Enhanced by advanced liquid cooling technology, the system is designed for a lifespan exceeding 12 years.

2. DC Coupled Solution:
Ideal for various site requirements, the DC coupling solution offers flexible deployment and can accommodate more PV panels, maximizing efficiency. This solution also features a patented pressure relief structure that prevents the lid from detaching, alongside simplified maintenance processes that promise faster turnaround times and lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for customers. The incoming modular battery series, PowerKeeper ST050CF, is designed for long-duration storage, ensuring operational flexibility.

3. Medium Voltage Solution:
For businesses with higher power demands and increased load consumption, Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 emerges as a fitting choice. The design of this system promises enhanced profitability, safety, and eco-friendliness. An improved discharge capacity by 8% and AI-controlled thermal balance that decreases auxiliary power consumption by 45% are among its standout features. Moreover, the system's safety incorporates a comprehensive approach covering prevention, detection, suppression, and protection to uphold top operational safety standards.

Industry Discussion and Insights

During the summit, a panel discussion featured Sungrow experts and industry leaders focusing on the evolving challenges and perceptions surrounding the C&I ESS market in South Africa. Nigel Sun, Head of Sungrow Sub-Saharan Africa, expressed confidence in accelerating renewable energy integration by leveraging the company's extensive experience with over 1000 deployed CI projects globally, including in Europe, APAC, and now South Africa.

He underscored the importance of creating a mutually beneficial environment for sustainable growth, stating, "With robust service support, we can drive the momentum for renewable integration across the MEA region."
