Background of the Project

The driving force behind this unique initiative is Izumi City Mayor Hiroyasu Tsuji, a passionate cat lover actively involved in cat rescue efforts. Mayor Tsuji has a vision of fostering a warm connection between people and the community through cats. His idea is to not compete with each other but rather to create a world filled with love and kindness, using cats as a unifying theme. This heartfelt message is being sent out from Izumi City to the world.

Exhibition Details

As part of this artistic celebration, selected artworks will first undergo a preliminary screening before being displayed in the citizens' gallery at the Izumi City Kubo Memorial Art Museum, known for its fine collection. Esteemed judges for the competition include notable artists such as Toh Gaku and Saeko Komiya, who will assess submissions based on creativity that brings joy to viewers and connects them through the whimsy of cats. The best artwork will receive a grand prize of 70,000 yen!

Inclusivity for All Ages

The art competition encourages participation from everyone. Specifically designed for the junior and kids category, the first 77 submissions from children aged 0 to junior high school will have their works displayed in the gallery, making it a first-time museum experience for many. This immersive exposure to art will surely boost their confidence and creativity.

Interactive Workshop: Researching Cat Behaviors

On July 26th, a workshop titled "Cat Behavior Research Institute" will take place at Momoyama University Campus in Izumi City, led by artist Saeko Komiya.
