Japanese Organization Provides Certified Nutritional Meals to Noto Peninsula Earthquake Victims

Supporting Earthquake Victims with Nutrition

In response to the devastating earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula, the Japanese Optimization Nutrition Food Association (JONFA), led by Chairman Hiroshi Ito, has stepped up to assist victims in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This initiative commenced between December 2024 and February 2025, aiming to provide food aid to evacuation centers and isolated households within the region.

Natural disasters create a significant challenge in accessing nutritious food. In normal circumstances, maintaining a balanced diet is already difficult. When crises arise, the availability of food becomes severely limited, risking further nutritional imbalances in affected populations during prolonged evacuation periods. The association acknowledges these pressing concerns and mobilizes resources accordingly.

From December 2024, JONFA collaborated with the Suzu City Health Promotion Center to supply 19 types of optimized nutritional meals in frozen form, specifically designated for lunch at evacuation centers. These meals were thoughtfully selected based on feedback from potential users, ensuring they cater to varied taste preferences. The meals were distributed biweekly until the end of February 2025, addressing the immediate dietary needs of evacuees.

In addition to the frozen meals, JONFA has focused on households at high risk of isolation due to heavy snowfall. Approximately 150 households received 300 sets of a selection of 10 different shelf-stable products as emergency food supplies before early December. This initiative aimed to mitigate the risk of starvation among families cut off from essential resources during winter conditions.

Commitment to Ongoing Support

Moving forward, the Japanese Optimization Nutrition Food Association remains committed to providing nutritionally balanced food options to individuals in need. The organization plans to continue collaborating with governmental bodies, local municipalities, and various support groups to ensure ongoing relief efforts are both effective and exhaustive. Their priority is to offer a diverse range of optimized nutritional meals that satisfy the dietary needs of all demographics affected by the disaster.

The association extends heartfelt condolences to all the victims and their families, wishing for a swift recovery and normalization for the affected areas. Their dedication to health and well-being through nutrition has emerged as a beacon of hope in these trying times.
