Experience Real Farming: Salad Party and Harvest Events in Takasaki

Explore the Real Farming Experience in Takasaki: A Unique Salad Party Event

This September, Takasaki City is set to host an exciting farming event where participants can engage in hands-on agricultural activities and savor the freshness of homegrown vegetables. Organized by the Gunma-based consumer cooperative, Pal System Gunma, in collaboration with the Gunma Direct Sales Council 'Megu Runma,' the event promises an enriching experience for all agriculture enthusiasts.

Date and Venue

Scheduled for September 5th, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the second session of the series, titled 'Real Farming Experience 2026 in Kurabuchi Grass Association,' will take place at a picturesque farming site in Kurabuchi Town, nestled in the western foothills of Mount Haruna.

The program invites about 16 families who are users of Pal System Gunma to immerse themselves in farm activities. Participants will take part in vegetable seed sowing, followed by a delightful 'Salad Party' where they can taste the freshly harvested produce. This event not only fosters a connection with the source of their food but also encourages gratitude towards farmers.

A Series of Farming Activities

This upcoming gathering is the second of three planned sessions aimed at deepening participants' understanding of the agricultural process. The first session, held in July, involved various activities such as weeding, thinning, and harvesting. The final session will occur in November, featuring a vegetable harvest and a curry lunch gathering made from the freshly picked ingredients.

Key Highlights of the Upcoming Event:

  • - Date: September 5, 2026
  • - Time: 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM (Meeting at 7:45 AM)
  • - Location: Kurabuchi Grass Association Collection Area, Takasaki, Gunma
  • - Activities: Sowing spring vegetables like shungiku (chrysanthemum greens) and kabu (turnips), harvesting seasonal crops, and participating in a salad party.

In addition to fostering community interaction, these farming experiences are designed to contribute to the emotional growth of children by creating meaningful connections with farming.

Commitment to Sustainable Agriculture

'Megu Runma' is a collaborative initiative between Pal System Gunma and three local agricultural groups—'Vegetable Club' from Showa Village, 'Kurabuchi Grass Association' from Takasaki City, and the Tone River Producer Group from Isesaki City. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2026, 'Megu Runma' aims to enhance local agricultural engagement and promote sustainable farming practices, improving both public health and community vitality.

Future Events and Activities

In preparation for their 10th anniversary celebration in November, the organization is also welcoming new member companies to expand its network. Ongoing programs include various agricultural experiences in Takasaki and Showa Villages, where urban residents can learn about growing crops such as edamame and negi (Japanese leeks).

Pal System Gunma continues to focus on bridging the gap between producers and consumers, promoting sustainable farming and a healthy food system. By fostering a deeper understanding between users and agricultural producers, they are contributing to the local community's overall prosperity and sustainability.

For those interested in joining the upcoming event, be sure to register early to secure your spot in this unique and educational farming experience.
