Costa Rica Reinforces Its Position in Silicon Valley with PROCOMER's Trade Mission

Strengthening Costa Rica's Tech Presence in Silicon Valley

Costa Rica's Foreign Trade Promotion Agency, known as PROCOMER, recently undertook a significant trade mission to the iconic Silicon Valley. This key initiative took place from May 13 to 15, 2025, in San Francisco, California, with the pivotal aim of generating new investment opportunities and showcasing Costa Rica's attractive value proposition to leading technology firms. The mission signifies Costa Rica’s strategic positioning as a reliable and innovative partner for global companies aiming to expand in competitive, cutting-edge, and sustainable environments.

During the trade mission, PROCOMER engaged with influential players in the technology sector. These included potential investors and existing companies operating within Costa Rica's burgeoning market. The discussions served to bolster existing business links, uncover new avenues for collaboration, and highlight Costa Rica's capabilities in sectors such as corporate services, digital technologies, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

Mónica Umaña, the Foreign Direct Investment Director at PROCOMER, emphasized, "Costa Rica had everything it needed to become a key player in global tech decision-making. This mission reflects our commitment to attract substantial investment and reinforce relationships with preeminent technology firms, positioning Costa Rica as a high-value destination for businesses eager for talent, legal stability, and operational certainty."

Silicon Valley is universally recognized as a leading hub for innovation and technological advancement, home to industry giants like Google, Apple, and Meta, along with numerous rapidly growing firms. Within this context, Costa Rica’s services sector emerged as one of the cornerstones of the nation’s economic model. Impressively, in 2024 alone, this sector generated $16.1 billion in exports, which accounted for nearly half of the total national exports, while employing more than 119,000 individuals. The growth within the information technology and financial services domains significantly bolstered Costa Rica's allure as a prime location for high-value global operations.

Following the Silicon Valley mission, PROCOMER also took the opportunity to strengthen its presence in other key U.S. markets. Notably, the agency participated in the Shared Services and Outsourcing Week (SSOW) held in Florida, further amplifying its outreach in North America.

This commitment to enhancing the services sector underscores Costa Rica’s proactive strategies to engage with rapidly evolving industries and generate quality employment opportunities, thus ensuring the country remains a relevant player on the global investment landscape.

In conclusion, PROCOMER's trade mission to Silicon Valley not only highlights Costa Rica’s transformation into a competitive player in the global technology space but also reflects the nation's dedication to fostering an environment conducive to innovation and sustainable growth. As Costa Rica continues to forge powerful alliances and investment opportunities, its role in the global economy is poised for significant expansion.
