Zeon Corporation and Its Group Companies Win 2025 Technical Award at CHEMINAS

In a distinguished event, Zeon Corporation, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, alongside its group company, Zeon Opto Bio Lab, based in Sano, Tochigi, has been awarded the 2025 Technical Award by the Chemical and Micro-Nano Systems Society (CHEMINAS). This prestigious accolade recognizes outstanding technological advancements in the chemical and micro-nano systems field and is one of four awarded categories, including awards for academic achievement and young talent.

The Technical Award specifically honors individuals or groups that have achieved remarkable developments in related technologies, including products, experimental apparatus, or methods. The award was presented during the 53rd research meeting by the society's president. The winning theme of this initiative was focused on the precision processing and prototype mass production techniques using Cycloolefin Polymer (COP) for microfluidic devices.

Notable award recipients included Kumi Okuyama, Koichi Aizawa, and Kiyoshi Arisato from Zeon Corporation and Zeon Opto Bio Lab. Their project exemplifies a groundbreaking convergence of materials science and microfabrication techniques, significantly contributing to both academic research and industrial applications.

Cycloolefin Polymer, the material used in their technology, boasts exceptional chemical resistance and transparency, making it suitable for applications in fluorescence observation and spectroscopic analysis. Moreover, its low impurity and low leachability characteristics ensure high safety and reliability for biological samples and medical components.

Their capability to perform high-precision processing through milling and thermal compression molding for small batch production, coupled with injection molding techniques for mass production, facilitates a seamless transition from the research phase to full-scale manufacturing.

The recognition of their work through this Technical Award is a source of great honor for Zeon. The company is committed to continuously contributing to safe and comfortable living for people through the development of innovative technologies. Their achievements underscore a significant step forward in advancing materials applications in microfluidic technologies.

The award ceremony, held on May 14, was attended by dignitaries, including President Takeuchi of CHEMINAS and the honored recipients: Okuyama, Aizawa, and Arisato, who have set benchmarks in their respective domains. Their pioneering efforts exemplify what can be achieved when science and engineering intersect to produce groundbreaking results. As Zeon looks ahead, it reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing everyday life through ongoing contributions to cutting-edge technology and research initiatives that pave the way for future innovations in the field of materials science and micro-nano systems.

The Chemical and Micro-Nano Systems Society (CHEMINAS) aims to develop new academic domains and technical fields through the integration of chemical, life sciences, and engineering technologies that focus on micro and nano-scale material processing. By fostering new industries derived from this fusion, CHEMINAS cements its role in leading advancements that bear significant societal benefits.
